BMW and M Power Owners

Can't stand it, it's not black its just really dark navy blue.

My Dad has a 520d, it's never fast but never slow either if that makes sense. It's all the performance you'd ever need, just not necessarily all you'd ever want.

A pretty fair assessment. Are there any crucial options I could have overlooked? The standard spec seems fairly generous as far as I can tell.

On a 520d don't forget that the standard specification misses the proper climate control, so it may be worth individually optioning that.

Otherwise the specificaiton is now so good that beyond M Sport Plus (Which itself is a personal taste thing rather than a must have) and Professional Media Package there are no longer any essential options - when the F10 first came out there was quite a list of essential options.

Personally I'd spec Park Assist and Reversing Camera which for about 600 quid give you self-park and a camera. There are a few little bits like that, really cool options that don't cost much.

Ah, I didn't know that about the climate control. They've done something similar on the F20 LCI, on the M Sport you now get xenons as standard, but don't get dual zone climate (which looks better and is handy to have).

When you say proper climate control, you mean the 4 zone?

I love my multi function display, so would spec that. And the sports auto. I also went with reverse camera, but not park assist. If I was buying again, I'd get the LED lights too and comfort access as well as memory seats. I'd probably also go for the surround view camera.

Of course, little of that is essential. But I would prefer to have that.

And no, it's not the 4 zone. Just the proper climate control.

When you say 'proper' climate control, what's the difference between that and whatever is fitted as standard? Is it just air con?

Sports auto is a good shout too, isn't it something like £160 more than the normal auto?

I love Carbon Black on mine

It's climate control, but it lacks features like a sun load sensor, fogging sensor, variable auto vent speed programmes, different vent speeds for driver and passenger etc.

Not available on the 520d since the LCI, only available on the good ones :p

To be honest with so many used ones being around with the M Sport Plus package buying a brand new 520d strikes me as totally daft.

If you've got £35k to spend you can buy something better than a 520d. If you don't want something better than a 520d you can save 10 grand and buy a 520d.

Very nice indeed. I'm a big fan of the 6 series. I've often looked at the approved used ones and thought about it.

I don't think I'd go and drop £35k on a new 520d, if that's the situation I need to look at the AUC vehicles. It looks like a 2014 530d M Sport, well specced, is £27-30k, which doesn't seem bad (just looking at new-ish ones).

Has anyone had any experience of bump stops on an E92? It appears that all of mine have perished and are falling apart. I also have a rear gas strut which is showing some signs of oil misting and BMW want £800 to replace both rears along with all 4 bump stops which sounds a little steep.

My question is whether knackered bump stops will have much detriment to ride. I believe that the M3 uses the stops are part of the ride control but don't know if that applies to mine?

They also want to charge £250 on top for KDS alignment which seems a joke since most places are around the £130 for a proper geometry check.

Hi all, I've got an 09 520d, I guess one of the first with the revised design for the N47 engine as mine came off the line in May and the mods were incorporated Jan 09 I think?

It's deep sea blue metallic with cream leather, not many options just the parking sensors. It's my daily, I do about 100 miles a day commute and it's all I need. Will do 50mpg regularly and mid 50s if you're careful (I calc it from filling up). Needs a sidelight bulb, bit shocked to hear they're £30 each!

Still trying to find some tyres which will do ~30,000 miles a year if anyone has some suggestions? (I forget the profile of my 17s) I don't drive fast *insert slow car joke here*.

Cheers.

Dunno if my driving is more sedate then? But the rears were only changed about 2000 miles ago on mine, and they had 4mm at least across them apart from where they had worn right down.

Thanks for the tyre input. I've got Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance all round as they're A rated for wet and I like having grip in the wet as it's the first rwd car i've owned!, and they're B-rated for fuel (which helps when you do 500 a week)

I just don't want to be spending more than £500 a year for 4 tyres - although the rears will obviously wear quicker than the fronts, and I'll prob go 14+months on the fronts.

A friend of mine with an A8 swears by using winters all year round, but I guess his 4wd system means the tyres wear much more evenly.

This is totally and easily possible - but you'd have to ditch the run flats.

Which is why reviews from individuals is notoriously hit and miss. He really thinks his winter tyres are great on a dry road in the height of summer when it's 25c outside, and the tarmac is 40c? I would suggest he doesn't have a clue about tyres!!

Mine came with efficientgrip performances. I ditched them. Horrid horrid tyres. Now have Eagle F1's on and they're nothing short of brilliant.
