BMW and M Power Owners

Anyone got experience with LED sidelights especially with the Z4 E85 and its poor dim yellow bulb, Just after a brighter light and something that looks well with my xenons.

I have a spare set of LEDs that I used to convert the interior to LEDs and seem to be the correct fitment for the sidelights.

If they're anything like the E46, they'll need to be CANBUS bulbs to avoid triggering a light on the dash. I don't think interior ones will work but there's no harm in trying them.

They're Canbus.

I didn't even know that this was a thing. A local scrote has kindly removed my M badges for me and provided free scratches to my car!

Are poverty spec BMW owners so desperate to appear to have good cars that they are buying second hand badges stolen off of true M car owners cars?

Anyone any idea how much this will cost to fix and where/how I do it?

I feel your pain, some inconsiderate soul has pinched a part of my Zed last week, was quite upset since its the first proper car I've bought for myself.

Personal choice and all that, but I changed the sidelights on my old E46 to LED and hated them, ended up changing back. They're side lights, don't need to be bright, and the orange makes the white xenon light stand out more.

I don't even.... :(

That's definitely a thing. A colleague had the S-Line badges exchanged for deep gouges in the paint on his A3. Got to make everyone think you've got that sick 170PS TDI y0

My car went in for a software update today because my idrive system has reset itself a couple of times whilst i've been driving. BMW serviced it too whilst it was in. I was given a 15 plate 320D Xdrive as a courtesy car so i thought i'd do a comparison.

The car i was given had 4410 miles on it. It was an M-sport model with the 8 speed sports auto. It had xenons, black leather interior, pro nav and Harmon Kardon too. I think it was carbon black metallic too. First impressions, when service handed me the keys and told me which car, i thought oh good, at least it's not a 1 series :D. It is a good looking car on the outside.

Next, i sat inside, and had a look around the interior, and the interior is pretty much the reason i went for a 5 series over a 3, it's also the reason i did not want a dark interior. I think the black leather and black trim looks claustrophobic, probably made worse by the rear privacy glass. I didn't like the stupid stick out screen, although it wasn't bad, i can't help think they are an afterthought by any manufacturer that uses them. The same goes with that stupid cover for the cup holders, who's idea was that! The interior of the 5 series is much nicer imo, everything is well thought out, and a class up, which it is meant to be. The interior really makes or breaks a sale for me.

Next, i put music on to listen to the HK, at first, i was pretty underwhelmed listening to the radio, it sounded no better than the standard speakers in my car and i felt rleived that i hadn't missed out on it. I had a play with the equaliser and it didn't improve much. It wasn't till later on in the afternoon that i attached my phone via bluetooth that i realised my errors. Such a vast improvement over the radio. I only got it to half volume listening to the new DJ fresh song (how love begins), and i loved it! Now i want HK in my car :( (I will be having it in my next one anyway). I had Bose in my Audi but the HK is better.

On to the engine, This had the 8 speed sports auto. From what information i can gather, this has the 2.0 (168bhp?) engine with a 0-62 in 7.8s (Please someone correct me as i read conflicting information). It was OK, it sounds more diesel like than my 525D, and i noticed the turbo lag, but the drive itself was ok, Not much really to say about the 4wd, i wouldn't have guessed i was driving one if i didn't know, although, i think the car felt heavy but that mught be in my mind as i knew it was 4wd. I can't compare it to a normal 3 series as i haven't driven one.

Verdict. If i didn't own a 5 series, i'd like the car, it was specced how i'd spec a new one bar the interior but i can't help but feel let down a bit by the interior compared to mine. I do however have a 5 and i will not step back to a 3. Given the choice of swapping my 13 plate as it is and that 15 plate as it was, i'd still choose mine.

Given the choice between a 2009/10 e61 530d and a 2010/11 f11 520d which is the better car?

Both would have the same trim levels Im interested in (Pro nav, xenons etc) - the key difference being the engine.

I drive to Poland frequently, so comfort is key.

I'd have the 520d over the 530d. The engine in the 530d is unquestionably better but the rest of the car is much better in the F11 than the E60, and I'd rather have an ok engine in a great car than a great engine in an ok car.

Yeah the 520d drives perfectly well and the interior is miles better. For fairly obvious reasons it just feels like a more modern car

If you were spending more like half the money in the 530d it'd be another story for me

Saw this posted on facebook and it gave me a chuckle :D

A Day In The Life Of A BMW Driver
The other day I was cruising along as usual coming onto one of my motorways, which was very busy with inferior cars.
First off, I couldn’t believe that the volume of traffic DIDN’T slow down for me AT ALL as I came off the exit ramp! I had to squeeze into a barely big enough gap between two cars in order to get onto my motorway!
The driver of the car behind me did realise his mistake though and honked an apology to me with a long blast of his horn.
Unbelievably, I had to do the same again before I could get to the BMW lane.
Anyway, once I was in the BMW lane and posing along at 110 mph enjoying the adulation that the inferior car drivers were giving me, I noticed an inferior car ahead of me which was not only in the BMW lane of my motorway, but was driving at a ridiculous 70 mph!
Naturally, I got within a foot or so of his rear bumper and flashed my headlights to remind him he shouldn’t be in the BMW lane of my motorway and to get out of my way.
Of course, once he realised it was a BMW behind him, he did just that, but I could hardly believe it when he pulled straight back out behind me!
He also tried to keep up with me and when he realised I would out-run him, he put on some blue lights in his front grill and urged me to get onto the hard shoulder so that he could congratulate me on my excellent car.
Needless to say, I was eager to oblige and when we had stopped, the man gave me a piece of paper confirming what I already knew – that my car goes fast!
Apparently he wants everyone to know what a superior car I have, so I had to take my drivers licence to a police station to be sent away to have some points put on! (They’re not free points either – they’re £20 each and I was only allowed 3.) But the man at the police station said that because I drive a BMW, it won’t be much longer before I earn the full 12 points, and then I won’t even NEED a driving licence, so they will take it off me!
See, now THAT’S the sort of respect you get when you own and drive a BMW!

The absolute best E60/1 you'd get is a 2009 Reg which at best will have probably no less than 50k miles on it. Fully spec'd you'd even have most of the features of the F10/1 too (if not moreso), but there's no denying that the F1x is a better car inside. Standard electric assisted steering is a bit meh compared to the old hydraulic units of the E6x but the quality is a better fit and it does feel more premium. You can't get away from that engine though. A 520d is always dire and by very nature will most likely be low spec. A 530d will naturally have a good spec (although some were spec'd dire). Genuinely, it's a tough shout if the E6x was floating early to mid teens price wise.

Can someone clarify the following:

Is the engine in the >2010 E9x 325d the same as the engine in the <2010 E9x 330d?

When was full postcode search implemented in iDrive?

Whilst brake testing a lorry is up there with the most stupid things you could ever do, it is incredibly annoying when this happens. When you travel on dual carriageways you often get lorries taking a couple of miles to do an overtake leaving stacks of cars bumper to bumper behind.

Why wouldn't the lorry driver being overtaken lift off by one or two miles per hour to let the overtaking lorry go passed in a matter of seconds? It's not difficult.

I always lift off a tad when a truck is passing mine, its professional and courteous - sod all to do with Eddie Stobart, its just how I drive - alas though, many HGV drivers take offence to being passed (especially by an Eddie!) and will drag out the elephant race for all its worth.

Not difficult at all if you think about it, if........

Yes and no. Its the N57 but there are subtle differences.

2010 but a firmware upgrade and a newer map adds it to those which don't have it.

Knew I could count on you, thanks :)

What are the subtle differences? Are they improvement? I'm thinking that aside from power, a 325d offers everything the 330d does.
