BMW and M Power Owners

I've checked for recalls and 2 which my car was subject to have been completed, something about rear light seals and fuel filter heater, got the email somewhere from BMW.

From what I can gather it's more 57/08/58 cars and pretty much pre Jan 2009 what have issues. Mine is March 09 however it does have a very light sort of pulsating whirring noise when hot, sounds like fan belt noise (not metallic), but I would rather know for sure. Some people talk about noisy chains on newer stuff but with no known issues of snapping etc but it's pot luck, who knows. We will see :)

Mines been sat in a carpark for a week after having some work done to it... Managed go fetch it this morning.

Nice car door ding in drivers door. Like a 4cm line ding.

Inspection done, pretty extensive and talked/walked me through the lot so I could see and understand anything spotted:

Nothing to worry about really.

I've asked them to quote the rubber jacking point cover on underside, breather pipe, caliper slider caps, exhaust clamp so I will get those sorted for how little it will cost. The little bits matter :) Front tyres is interesting as loads of tread but flatted on the edges a bit although the car doesn't waiver about or track badly. I checked the pressures myself after I got the car and they were too high so back in line with spec now.

Nothing is urgent though and the propshaft coupling is minor (couple of tiny sort of fractures in a few places) so he said not to worry but I said note literally everything you spot and that list is it.

Was impressed with how thorough they were. Engine seems fine, no obvious timing chain noises. So I can relax now. He did mention to me it seems BMW were flat out saying NO to timing chain replacement under warranty but thinks it may even be worth trying to see if they'd do it FOC as people are having luck lately getting this to happen? So maybe worth a shot. Can't hurt to ask.

X6 > 550i > M5 > 428i

I'm very surprised you didn't go for a 435i or M4!
Is the x28i engine really that good?

Its a very good engine for what it is. A strabeg choice over a 435 for somebody with his car history though. The price difference new is quite small.

Glad you got on well here. Good to know they are still worth the trip up the road.

I'm guessing it's probably not new though since the 428i has now been replaced by the 430i. Another 4cyl turbo which produces something like a whopping 5bhp more (officially).

After 30 years of driving I just bought my first Beemer.... Ok nothing exotic like some examples here, but a little run about and toy for the summer.... 54 plate Z4, 3.0L auto in silver and red leather interior....:). .... Let's hope we have a nice summer !!

nice colour combo
pics please

Original wanted black, but finding red leather was tricky, black on black was a bit too much and the light leathers don't age/wear so nice, then saw this silver one and thought it worked really well with the style and shape of the car.....
You can still see pic details on the dealer site....
