BMW and M Power Owners

I suspect Fox would much rather have a petrol engined 5 series than his 530d, however the 6 cylinder petrols are rare as rocking horse poo with any decent spec or without a silly price tag as everyone buys diesels, and most of those are 520d at that.

Yeah must admit I like them a lot

Even my Dad's 520d is quite an impressive all rounder, pre LCI prices with a bit more get up and go are almost at a sensible level for me to start considering too

F10 production ends in October ready for the new one to begin deliveries next Spring.

As for mileage, no idea. We like going on road trips so hopefully lots :D I'd like to revisit the big Europe trip I did a few years ago at some point too.

So, M-Sport+ with Pro Nav, Black Panel and through load? Looks great. RTTI is VERY helpful in my experience.

How you enjoying the new steering wheel?

I find it absolute gash in my 330e? It's incredibly laggy, so far behind 'real time' that by the time you get to the 'traffic' it's gone or indeed vice versa. Also the dynamic routing is terrible. When I drove home from Goodwood it did the whole 'Your route is being recalculated due to traffic information' and the ETA went UP by 30 minutes! I had to turn it off to go back to the original route, and indeed I sailed through miles of 'red' traffic with no cars in sight.

Absolutely terrible, use Google Maps if your routes are iffy with traffic because the RTTI is useless.

I covered 600 miles over the weekend and found RTTi helpful. Red bits on the other side of the road corresponded well to stationary traffic too.

It's saved me a few times, and is usually quite accurate. Although I will admit, I do sometimes ignore it thinking I know best. Once or twice I have been right though. But that's more because I already knew the traffic profile in that city.

But, on big motorway drives, it has saved me a few times.

It's lead me in to trouble a few times. Particularly in the lakes. Tried to take me up a closed road. Every time I turned away from it it just lead me on a circular route back to that same closed road.
Which had been closed for about a year.

Are your maps not perhaps out of date?

The main problem I have with it is that if you ignore it, for whatever reason (for example, it had a local road to me closed that wasn't, it was only a section before that was closed, that could be easily bypassed, for months too), it insists on constantly re-reminding you.

After 20 months of ownership the 640d is going back to BMW on Thursday so thought I’d write down some of my thoughts on it.

Overall it is a great car, its quick, comfortable and a great place to be over a long journey. The build of the interior is very good and the media system is by far the best I’ve ever used.

My car had the M Sport Plus pack and the Surround view cameras so added the HUD, 20” Wheels, Digital Instrument Panel and HK Sound system all of which I really liked. The HK system is very very good, the HUD you get very used to very quickly and the digital dash is just a nice upgrade. Personally I would not want one of these cars without at least the reversing camera and found the surround view a massive bonus in car parks which can be a little nerve wracking...

The engine and gearbox combination is superb being so well matched to deliver loads of power when you want it but to also cruise very happily at low rpm. It doesn’t have the most compliant ride but for 20” wheels run flats and m sport suspension its more than acceptable. Seating is also very good and easily adjustable to accommodate most people. The boot is massive though so never had an issue with that other than the opening being a bit small.

The main reason for change is over the last 18 months my life has had a bit of an upheaval with major changes in circumstances and requirements. My 2 kids are growing up making the rear seats just a touch too small and the stupidly big doors a monumental pain in the bum. I’m also doing a lot less miles now so the costs of it just sitting there were a bit extreme and it depreciating at a frightening rate so time for it to go…

Overall I’m a little sad, but the last few months of ownership have felt a bit flat so I pick up its replacement on Thursday morning.
