BMW and M Power Owners

Thought I'd ask here about my problem. M54b30, it's been a couple of months where it's started knocking. Seems to be more prominent when the car is upto temperature, and around cylinder 4 or 5. Not affected performance in anyway at all just a knocking noise. Hoping it's a loose spark plug but is this common?

Sound is like this and for him it was a loose sparky.

Well, her indoors' Estoril 4.6 X5 went up the road at the weekend to be replaced by something a little more frugal than 12mpg average.
late 09 177 bhp Msport Business Ed, I have to say, I have driven it more than the missus since I brought it home from Derby (just the 700 mile round trip in 24 hours). Including some overtaking etc, it averages 54mpg so cant be too unhappy at that.
Wheels to be refurbed as the paint job on them at the moment isnt up to standard, one little scratch on the front bumper and the interior is like new.

Car started crying at me yesterday saying it needed 1ltr of oil.

Rang BMW and they said this is normal. 1ltr every 1k miles is normal, i have done 5k miles so guess thats good right?

1ltr every 1k miles is RX8 oil consumption...

... and also BMW consumption! :D

I was putting in 1lt every 1,000 miles in my old 330Ci (M54 engine). It may have something to do with how the engine was treated when new but I'm not entirely sure there's any evidence to support this.

Either way, I never had any issues because of it. and drove some 20,000 miles with regular top ups.

My local dealer is doing the following offer on a new M240i:

£399 per Month
£999 CustomerDeposit
£5,928.04 towards your Deposit
5.9% APR Representative

Does this seem a good deal from the deposit contribution perspective?

When I spec this on online with 5K of options, the price comes to just under £41k.

I like the idea of a small car with decent handling and buying a new M240i seems to make more sense when I look at prices of nearly new, low mileage 2nd hand M235is. Plus I can't find one with the spec I'd want (adaptive suspension, Pro nav, heated seats and not in white).

I could buy this outright, but suspect I can get a better price from the dealer if I take on 'some' finance.

Essentially I'm asking If there are better discount available from other dealers?

Try getting a quote through coast2coast and broad speed, who are brokers and give an indication on how much discount is available.

I think an M240i was coming out at about £32-33k for paint, pro nav, HK sound and comfort pack the other night on c2c.

They can also put you in contact with a UK dealer who can provide you a car and finance at a discounted price. You can use this price and ask your local dealer to match.

Thanks, yeah I get a price of just over £33k with all the options I want. Seems quite a decent discount. Still, it's a lot for a wee 2 series :D

Are BMW leases generally seen as quite expensive?
I've never had any form of lease, HP etc and hopefully never will, however my friend is looking into it and some of the cars sound pretty decent to me.

He was saying he saw a 420i Prof Media for £400 inc VAT for 2 years.
Now £300 a month on hassle free motoring for two years, and then chopping and changing without paying a balloon payment sounds good to me

What are the downsides to leasing?

The fact that you've spent close to £10k to drive around in a low powered car with nothing to show for it at the end?

But if the end result doesn't bother someone and all they want is a car that is completely hassle free it seems like a decent buy?

As some of you know, when I bought my 530d SE I intended to fit the full M Sport bodykit and wheels. I got as far as the wheels before realising this was quite an expensive and fundamentally pointless exercise and it'd probably more cost effective to just buy the M Sport. So I shelved the idea in favour of another plan once my 2 year warranty expired...

... so here is my LCI 530d M Sport :D

I'll get some proper pics at the weekend, but here is one snapped on the way back from collecting it. I'm really pleased with it as it fixes a number of frustrations and missing bits I found with my very early SE - my original was a Feb 10 so the very first F10 retail model in the UK so missed quite a few random bits that seem like they don't matter - having RTTI now is great :D

Yes - it is exactly the same colour as my last one and you wouldn't believe how much of a pain it was trying to find one that was :D

I finally feel like I've found a car to keep for ages and ages again now :D

Very nice. I think the M Sport looks a lot better than the SE (though later SE models look fairly good).

I'm still hopeful of getting one of the last production F10's towards the end of the year, but it may be difficult. Superb car.

Shocker as fox replaces 530d with a 530d!

Looks nice, what's the spec? I imagine you waited for one that's had most options ticked?

Spec is Pro Nav, Harmon Kardon, Sport Automatic Transmission, Style 351's, Sun Protection Glass, M Rear Spoiler, Full Black Panel display, Through Load and the all important wood trim :p

The first potential car I viewed was 6 months ago, which gives you an idea of how much of a PITA it is to find a decent 6 cylinder one of these. It shouldn't be this hard and it's sad that is I guess.
