Agreed. The bottom picture looks like the type of car that always wants to race me.

It seems to me that, at least around here, every single M140i/"M-Lite"/M-Performance-tatted owner carries a chip on their shoulder. The more barried the car, the bigger the chip and the more desperate they are to prove something the moment they see the M2. It is so predictable it is getting boring although I did laugh a couple of weeks ago when some ***** in a tastelessly modified example lost control in a straight line through a set of lights and very, very narrowly avoided a nasty collision with the armco. I was completely stationary and as the lights changed they came past me at what was likely 50+mph in a 30 and from the noise, at WOT...

It depends who you're on about.
Splitter and side foils??
Those can be on from factory.
A new M2 looks more "barried" than basic Msport spec lol

To be fair if they are on the configurator as factory options

They were not.

They were accessories sold separately after you'd bought the car.

I don't think anything you had to pay a separate labour charge for installing can be counted as a factory option :D

i've done this for my last two car purchases
you exclusively cancelled PCP deals on new cars, or 2nd hand cars on garage finance too.

Was looking at the kits on carbon factory, anyone have experience with them? Reviews seem pretty solid from what I can see.
so how much are you investing on the parts .. presumably not the £1K stuff, , but equally a front splitter <£100 may be made of cream cheese, if you do scrape a policeman.

Looking for advice on warranty.

Had quotes for my M2...

Comprehensive:
£0 excess £1309
£100 excess £995
£250 excess £793

Named component:
£0 - £1034
£100 - £827
£250 - £666

All above exclude roadside assistance, as I have AA cover via bank account.

There's also driveline, however I am not tempted as the claim limit is £5000, which I don't think would cover a 'major failure' of DCT gearbox or engine

I am tempted by named with £100 excess, however are there any major components that I would be missing out on that I should go for comprehensive for? I know all the screen, interior bits etc wouldn't be covered but my major concern is engine, gearbox, and diff.
Lol, prices have gone up across the board. £250 excess for comprehensive is now £845

Warranty is notably more expensive as a new customer compared to renewing right?

Quotes against random cars pulled from non-BMW dealers/traders (presumably cheaper because BMW warranty expired):

2018 BMW M2 LCI
Comp, £250xs £1546/y
Comp, £100xs £1962/y
Named, £250xs £1286/y
Named, £100xs £1618/y
Drive, £250xs £984/y
Drive, £100xs £1223/y

2018 BMW M2C
Comp, £250xs £2121/y
Comp, £100xs £1702/y
Named, £250xs £1442/y
Named, £100xs £1778/y
Drive, £250xs £1140/y
Drive, £100xs £1381/y

For reference, my M135i is £330 per year for fully comp with £250 excess.

The quotes you posted above, are they renewals? If so, for which model?

Surely this is just another reason to buy direct from BMW? 12 month warranty which you can then renew for a decent saving?

I'm considering buying an M2 privately and may take out the BMW warranty. The car is not modified and has a full BMW history.

I am looking at purchasing either the "driveline" or "named component" warranty - anyone have experience of claiming with either of these? The quote on the website with £250 excess was only £1140/£1442 which I don't think is too bad given what it covers.

  • For the Driveline option it appears to cover; engine, timing belts, turbo, gearbox, final drive, casings, sundries and misc, as per: Policy handbook
  • For the named component option you get the above, with addition of cover for clutch, steering, braking system, fuel / cooling systems and electrics.

I'm just concerned in case I end up with a major fault and have to pay out of my own pocket. The car was previously sold approved used, twice, which gives a small amount of security but you never know.

Mine are renewals, about to finish BMW warranty. It is a 2018 M2 LCI funnily enough
