BMW and M Power Owners

and - you went 320d because you found a deal plus potential of good economy on long trips ?

I'm resigned to a step down from m52, because I want more fuel and insurance premium economy than a b58, sub £500 insurance, both should help depreciation too.

Few things:

I didn’t find a 330i in the spec I wanted at the price I wanted (I bought my 320d private)

320d better suits my use case, which is better economy for my trips to work & Wales - difference is small but adds up for the next part

320d was about £300 a year cheaper on insurance

In all, the 320d worked out about £150 a month cheaper factoring in fuel/insurance/purchase price (due to a lack of private sales)

From a convenience factor, I bought the 320d on the way back from a trip to the midlands, so no extra journey needed.

Not 100% sure about the G, but Valeo are the best I've used on the F platform.

Rumour has it that was what BMW fitted from new.

They did indeed used to be. I did see a post online to say that BMW now use Bosch, but the BMW wiper blades don’t look anything like Bosch, but rather identical to Valeo.

The Bosch fitting looked almost bang on but it didn’t quite fit.

Michelin didn’t have anything remotely close.

Unless you buy a diesel my experience is that there isn't really a huge fuel economy difference between any of the petrol ones including the M340i.

My M340i reliably returns over 45mpg on a long Motorway journey and the fuel economy since factory is showing 35 overall. It really is fantastic. It's not great around town but no BMW I have ever owned or driven is really.

For comparison, I averaged 37mpg overall with my 530d. The M340i is such a good car. I've yet to find anything negative about owning one.

I think the latest BMW 'M Performance' announcement might ruffle a few feathers in the M purist community.

The new M135 now has quad exhausts, M style mirrors, grille and a rear badge styled as M135

Seemingly all still powered by the 300bhp 2.0 4 cylinder.

Less power, more exhausts and stupid badging.

Is anyone really surprised at the shenanigans BMW pull anymore. It's all just up sell tat these days.

Tbh it's probably 'ok' in the sense that M cars are now outrageously expensive, too quick for most normies to handle, but still look the best.

Seemingly it's what people want. All show, no go.
300bhp in a hatchback is still reasonable and yes folk want their cars to look good. It's why the Scirocco was still selling for ages despite being a generation behind. The M car is just too costly to buy, to insure, to run, too complicated to get the most out of it - but folks do love how it looks.

I think it looks terrible personally but it's hardly no go is it? It's a 300bhp hatchback. It really is quite quick.

It just doesn't need to look like it does now. The previous M135i had the balance absolutely right in terms of subtle differences so it stood out from the rest of the range but without being too much. it is so sad to see how quickly BMW is changing, as recently as 2021 there wasn't many cars in the range I didn't like, now there are very few I do.

I think the M135i was the last remaining M Performance car you could buy that didn't arrive as standard with black wheels, excessive wing mirrors, etc.

I'm pushing on with the search for an M2C and would like to find one before warranty renewal + servicing is due in August on my current car.

Hockenheim Silver/Long Beach Blue
Sub 35k miles

BMW AUC or reputable trader
M2 Plus Pack
M2 Comfort Pack

Up to £35k

These are the standout candidates so far:

BMW AUC, Long Beach Blue, 2019, 22k miles, M2 Plus Pack, M2 Comfort Pack - £35,111 (advertised since 23/05/24 and increased from £34,950)

BMW AUC, Hockenheim Silver, 2020, 29k miles, M2 Plus Pack, M2 Comfort Pack - £34,995 (advertised since 30/05/24)

AT, Hockenheim Silver, 2019, 28k miles, M2 Plus Pack, M2 Comfort Pack, Big Brake Kit - £34,991 (advertised since 22/03/24 and reduced from £35,991)

The 3rd car looks like a serious contender as it comes with the big brake kit, still has some BMW Warranty (according to the quote checker) and it has been up for a while so maybe some wiggle room on the price. Very tempted to contact them and start asking questions.

I still need to pull my finger out and organise a drive in an OG M2. Fortunately it looks like the dealer for the 3rd car also has an OG M2 in stock, so I might try and swing a drive in that if I do go to view the M2C.

I'd go with 2 (for BMW Warranty) or 3. I think it looks good in light colours as it works well with the black accents.
OG M2 sounds brilliant even on stock exhaust, so you'd probably need an aftermarket exhaust if you go Comp, and even then it's not as good.
Definitely try both if they have both available!

Hockenheim Silver/Long Beach Blue...

The Long Beach Blue is a stunning colour, very classy in my opinion.
If ever it needed a machine polish etc it would come up amazing.
