BMW and M Power Owners

Picked up that X3m40i so far impressed with it's Jekyll and Hyde like abilities. Very easy to drive around down in comfort mode and switch into sport when the kids aren't in the car

What year is this? Love the look without the black grills etc. Can’t seem to find any for sale that look anywhere near as nice as this.

I've booked a test drive of this on Saturday. Mileage is a little high for my liking and still completely undecided on options, but it's local and gives a glimpse into what an M2C will feel like. Afterwards, will try to find an LCI non-comp for a drive.
Test drive done. I was grinning through the entire thing. It's night and day different to my M135i. Responsive, planted and a scary amount of power immediately available. I tried M1 and M2 modes, manual and automatic, but with some element of traction control left on. You can really tell is a performance car rather than a standard car with a powerful engine thrown in.

Loved the seats and the cabin. Also impressed by the newer iDrive.

The only minor criticism I have is that the exhaust feels a bit muted. I don't want obnoxiously loud with pops and bangs, but sometimes I couldn't even really hear it below 5k rpm.

Overall I'm impressed and I can definitely see myself owning one, especially in long beach blue, it looks beautiful in the sun.

I'm not sure if I was being fobbed off here, but the salesman advised that 2 months ago they were given the green light to sell additional years of warranty a the point of sale with heavy discounts, does this seem accurate? They can sell 1, 2, 3 and possibly 4 year deals, with 3 year on the M2C fully comp around £1200 in total? That seems like an incredible deal when you consider it'll be around £1000-1200 per year based on the posts above? Huge saving.

Next, I need to drive an LCI and see how that feels, then I need to see how the financials work out. £32-34k M2C, less around £11k for my car, throw in a few grand and then it leaves around £19k to be funded by a bank loan. It seems like a decent rate would be around 5.9-6% at the moment.

They have in the past been able to supply more than a year of warranty with an approved used car and the price to them to do this has always been less, sometimes much less, than it would cost you to renew it. However it has often been difficult to find a retailer who will both accept they could do it and then do it. I got this a decade ago but have not tried since. You sometimes see them offering extra warranty in a sales event, for example.

You must check that it is the BMW Approved Used warranty that is being sold though and not a retailer specific one.

Good luck finding anywhere who will let you pay any meaningful amount by credit card.

Most now won't even take a debit card and ask for bank transfer!

Can’t say I’ve had any issues buying cars from main dealers with a debit card, the last being early this year.

I think it's a recent thing since the fee structure for paying with debit cards changed from a fixed amount to a 'low' percentage, making low value transactions much cheaper but with the opposite effect on higher value transactions.

thought op was talking about 19K - for some kind of temporary car settlement , a couple of K's a bit different, can't imagine wanting a car so much.

Merc guy pulled a face but let me pay £5k by credit card. When I bought the Ibiza at 11.5k the bloke was indifferent to the whole process. Let me pay the whole lot over 3 cards.

pop some on a 0% credit card first
How would that work? Take out a new 0% card and slap £5k of the £19k on the card, with the remaining balance funded by a bank loan?

£5k @ 0% over 22 months
£14k @ 5.9% over X years

Or am I completely misunderstanding that?

Unless things have changed since I bought my M135i, part cash/trade + bank loan is still the best way to fund a new car right? Generally speaking of course.

I didn't really entertain the PCP or HP options as I guessed the APRs offered would be notably higher than the best loans available. I also prefer flexibility, e.g. owning the car outright and being able to sell to clear the debt, so loans have always worked for me personally.

correct.
in essence 25% of the "loan" now becomes interest free for the first couple of years (or whatever length of time the 0% is)
you just need to pay the minimum on the credit card until the last month, then settle the rest of the CC before the ridiculous APR kicks in

Good stuff. Yeah they are a completely different animal, not a lot of folk realise that.

One on my drive currently (my mates M2C, he's staying over).

Its a 2019, I wasn't that fussed about the black grill figured I could always fix that after, but finding one with the adaptive suspension and tech pack was the main focus
