BMW X3 Extended warranty advice wanted....

I had a turbo explode (properly explode with a loud bang, smoke, bits everywhere) on an Audi A3 with under 90k miles on it :/

A friend had one pop on an A4 around 100k. Also another friend's brand new 2 week old BMW.

I purposly went for a simple, NA petrol car to commute in because I don't want to have to deal with it again :D

I would be annoyed if a turbo went under 100k. I sold my old 530d to a friend with just under 100k on it he's run it to 150k odd and the turbo has no noticeable shaft play. It did snap it's timing chain which is why the turbo was checked before stripping the engine to replace the chain. Not a job I am going to offer to help with again.
I had a turbo blow on a 2002 BMW 320 diesel turbo with about 48k miles on it. I bought it on 44k a few months earlier. Luckily it was still under manufacturers warranty. A while later the glow plugs and diesel pump needed replacing too. Ran fine then for another 80k or so miles. Still goes down as the worst car I've owned for reliability though :).

Without the warranty OP would be looking at around £4k for repairs. That would be quite a few miles of fuel savings (vs petrol) blown on fixing it up.

Both my cars now are NA petrol engine cars.

Yea it would have been over 3k to fix the A3 I had, luckily it was still covered by a dealer's warranty. I only had it 6 months so it would have been cheaper to commute in a V8 in the end if I didn't have the warranty :p
