Boinc Pentathlon

Do you have this...

<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>

in your cc_config.xml file (in the ProgramData\Boinc folder) ?

Also, are you running multiple tasks on each card ?
These are set up in Einstein Preference.

i changed the 1 to a 3

<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>3</use_all_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

working fine now

I believe the option is an off or on switch.
0 means don't use all the gpus, 1 means do use all the gpus.
I expect the test is if 0 then don't, otherwise use them all so having a 3 won't be a problem.

In your Einstein preferences have you told it to process 2 (or 3) tasks at a time on each card ?
They should all be able to do at least 2 at a time, so change the three DANGEROUS settings to 0.5. This lets 2 at a time run, 0.33 allows 3 to run (per gpu)

I'm on 0.5 (2 per gpu), makes things warmer for you :D
If you want to change it to 3 then you should check run times to see you are making more points for the same or less time (overall) and heat isn't a problem.

cheers, ill have a play but the only card that is watercooled is the titan atm so the 780s getting a little toasty as it is, if i wasnt spending 50 quid a week on lecy i could buy some more watercooling gear! lol

Not sure that I can offer that great a contribution, but I'll set the couple of computers I have available to do WGC and Einstein once they get over their current work - they were chasing down Mr Hanluc in Asteroids, and getting very close :D.

Yes, I had noticed :mad:
Thanks for helping out ;)

Not sure with Einstein on the best settings. I see that it's supposed to be GPU for this challenge, yet there are CPU WUs too?

I wouldn't bother doing the CPU tasks they pale into insignificance compared to the production of GPUs.

In theory I've turned off the Einstein CPU. But it still downloaded and wants to run the things :(

The only thing I can think of is if the computer location is different, that is if you're editing the default Einstein comp settings but your computer location is set to something different. Where it says 'Computers on this account' is the computer 'location' blank or does it say home, work or school? blank is default.

...You've altered your settings here haven't you?

Yes I've changed that so there is no CPU and all computers are default location. Maybe it takes a couple of times for the computer to connect and pick up the settings, meanwhile it's grabbing the wrong work.

Just a reminder that the 5 day Mariacontrol.net challenge starts tomorrow at 1am our time.

Also yoyo@home starts at 1 am Monday the 11th our time. There are currently 4 sub projects available, Cruncher, Muon, Evolution and Ecm, I got work for all except Evolution. The deadlines for Cruncher & Ecm were just a few hours after the start of the challenge so i'd given those sub projects a day or so if anyone wants to bunker them now, however Muon was 5 days after so they're good to go. Yoyo work preferences can be edited here.

It's looking pretty close for 19th spot on WCG, AMD users are just a few thousand behind us :(

I've tried to resurrect my 4P rig to do the malariacontrol thing. Timing for that could have been good as I won't be around towards the end of the pentathlon thingy and machines will then be "not on".

But the 4P is being crashed by malaria. No idea why. :( Of the 64 CPU threads it's probably only 25% that show 100% use at any one time with others at random 0% or anything inbetween. It's not a RAM or Disk space issue as there is plenty of both unused according to the system monitor. At the moment I can't even get BOINC Manager to let me in to the advance settings, it's just stuck "communicating with BOINC Client".

I saw this before with some other BOINC projects, can't remember which. It was OK on Pogs when we did that thing last year so it must be something to do with the project needing something I don't know about.

In the boinc client: tools/computer preferences/processor usage/on multiprocessor systems, use at most ... make sure it is at 100% I remember reading that multi procs like yours don't like the default 0%, which should equate to 100%, actually change it to 100%. The communicating with boinc client problem, I would guess that the manager is running but not the client, or your trying to run two instances, reboot your machine.

Nope that makes no difference to the crash / freeze. It's definitely something amiss in my rigs processing as the WUs freeze / don't complete / cycle over the same bit / computational error. And that in turn brings down the entire rig to such an extent that it's virtually impossible to even get a terminal running to stop processes by text command.
