Borderlands 3

Big disadvantage playing co-op - 20 minute gun management. Oh I might need this, this has good stats - who cares you'll dump it in two levels :D Just grab some fun guns and run about shooting Or do it in your own time!

I'm only enabling him so that when it comes to that mission in bltps where you gotta collect 50 common guns i dont have to do it :P

And all that gun management is just with the white guns! :D Borderlands 3 swamps you with legendaries so after playing the first three Borderlands games, where I keep all my orange guns (and put them in Moxxi's bank), with BL3 you end up throwing half of them away. It nearly kills me to do so.

tell me about it, i ended up basically doing nothing but paying to upgrade the bank on my first playthrough and storing all the legendary stuff in case it was useful for other characters, then second playthrough it kinda trivialised things having a big cache of good gats from a range of levels (on top of the ones i was getting naturally through that playthrough).

eventually maxed out the bank and still filled it up and had to go through and yeet all the duplicates.

kinda funny cos second playthrough i was doing the moze build so spent 90% of my combat in iron bear blasting nukes left right and centre so didn't really need good guns anyway.

Finally got round to playing this recently. I loved BL 1 and 2, played all the BL2 DLC to death but for whatever reason I'm really not liking BL3 so far. Perhaps I haven't got far enough into the game yet but everything seems so bland. It's hard to say...

Maybe once I get some decent guns etc.. it'll be better but man they've really screwed the inventory ui on that. It's horrible.

Think I mostly miss playing Zer0 :D though the hunter dude, whatever his name is is kinda fun.

Borderlands games have always been about looty-shooty treadmills, and you either get into it or you don't... the plots have always been useless, but with enough quirk and Claptrap to keep you semi-engaged as an excuse to stay on the treadmill.

I too, haven't taken to Borderlands 3 very well, and although I'm on my third playthrough, it's just as a distraction from life, making the numbers get bigger while I zone out. The Legendary overload means they're just another class of junk, and I tend to find one weapon every few hours (ok, weeks!) which I stick with for ages. That's ok while I've got lots of upgrades to buy.. collect, sell, upgrade, dopamine hit! But I miss the hit seeing a Legendary drop used to give.

For most of this character's play I've been using https://borderlands.fandom.com/wiki/P.A.T._Mk._III from the Krieg expansion. Fire a few bullets, spawn, fire a few, spawn, etc, hide while they clean up. It's fun at first, but hard to find something better.

they've really screwed the inventory ui on that. It's horrible.
Maybe it works better for controllers/consoles, which is probably the primary development target these days, but I agree that there's something rather awkward about it. I'm also not a big fan of the map... I keep trying to click on the spot I want to teleport into, but you have to select it from the list of names on the left instead. Probably just me being thick. :)

Edit: just realised the story of the Krieg add-on is actually almost moving. But the main game never engaged me in any way... though I guess "can't wait to murder those annoying kids" counts as engagement doesn't it. :-)

Does not compute.

I can sort of understand that.

Borderlands 3 I found has solid gameplay, it's a little addictive trying out the different guns and talent combinations of the various characters. It's a bit like any decent ARPG in that regard, there's a lot to do and play around with.

As a "Borderlands" game it falls a little flat, while the gameplay is superior to 1 and 2 it's not a massive leap compared to the second although it is more refined, and it lacks a lot of the charm and humour, especially compared to the second game.

Overall I enjoyed Borderlands 2 a lot more, especially with all the DLC and it's a game I'll probably replay a few more times in the future. I ran through BL3 a couple of times simply to try different characters out, I'm not sure if I'll bother with it again. It lacks the longevity I tend to find in similar games.

I play it the same way I play Bejewelled sometimes... just a way to break my boredom or mood by making numbers get bigger for a while, usually while listening to a TV documentary/comedy or podcast. I have hundreds of hours in Borderlands games over the last 8+ years, but it's gaming fast food. Ask me my favourite games and it's experiences like The Last of Us (played twice, total 35ish hours) and the original System Shock which stand out by miles. I rate the first Dead Space very highly too, but I never want to play it again!

The biggest problem I have with Borderlands 3 is loot overload... which is a bit of a problem in a looty-shooty game. The stuff's everywhere! And the more there is of anything, the less it's worth. But that doesn't stop me going round a few familiar loops regularly (Devil's Razor, mainly) and farming for a while.

I haven't bought the second season pass, and only played the start of the 'western' one and all of the Krieg one from the first batch. Not sure whether I'm saving them for a gaming rainy day or simply uninspired.

PS I want a loot-disposal companion like Torchlight 2!

I don't know why anyone hasn't copied the system from Marvel Heroes. You could specify to auto-sell anything over a certain level, so for example, you didn't have to deal with anything under epic or legendary items (you set the level). Things just got hovered up and disposed of so you could see the good stuff. It really streamlined the loot sorting and left you with only the few things you were interested in.

i'd assume copyright.

tbh i just don't pick anything up unless it's a legendary or better stats than whatever i'm currently using. don't bother at all with picking stuff up just to sell.

I'm working through my first play through. I'm only playing this because my son wanted to so we are running through it together. Not really my cup of tea but I will admit that its been fun so far. The only downside is when my son (in the middle of a boss battle) will just take off to hit the can or something. I'm like, "dude, we are in a boss battle, can't you hold it?" and he's like, "nope, gotta go!"

My son is 6.

Hopefully it will click with you in time but even if it doesnt I for one really appreciate the update. All too often folks ask about a game , get feedback on that game and then you never hear from them again as to what they went on to experience, so its great to see someone continuing to give their thoughts after their purchase.

haha, yeah, it's a pet hate of mine too. When I go to the effort of helping somebody or giving them gaming advice and then they just disappear!!

I haven't got too far in the game yet. Just finished the first mission after killing Mouth Piece. I am still playing it, so that's something :)

think the smaller enemies thing is a combo of the tink's being smaller than the old school midgets and the maps being larger, making everything look smaller by comparison.

i do agree, on paper there's all sorts of differences going on but it does feel like they don't do that much and the core "groups" don't really vary much.

have you hit the orange swarm yet? i've been finding through my playthroughs that legendaries seem to be much more common than previous games and i'm finding myself able to drape my character in orange for a big chunk of a playthrough.

i always just used the same quick maths that i've developed over the previous series for deciding at a glance wether or not something is worth picking up. as a general rule i'll only pick up legendary to store in the bank (in case it's useful for another character), anything else that's not better than my current gear just gets left on the ground.

it's funny i recently introduced a colleague to the bl franchise and we've been doing a bl1 playthrough. he's still at the stage of hoover up everything to sell regardless, even though i've told him there's bugger all you can do with your money in bl1 :p

It's really odd that everything feels so small though. The first boss was supposed to be a big guy, but, he seemed small to me. I playing through on Moze, and my IronCub is tiny!! When I first activated Ironcub, I literally laughed out loud!!! :D

HAven't hit the orange swarm yet? Still early in the game. But, so many gun drops. Finding a chest just doesn't have the same appeal as in Borderlands 2.

LOL, I would be like your colleague!! I find it extremely difficult to leave stuff behind. It kills me to walk away :p

never tried iron cub, i got the legendary class mod that halves fuel consumption relatively early on so specced heavily into the bear enhancements (more dakka, more armour etc) and it got to the point iron bear was lasting longer on fuel than any given fight would take and had enough armour for all but the toughest of bosses.

pretty much the only time i was actually playing as moze alone was due to parkour, doorways or travel.

if you've just killed mouthpeice it's still early enough days yet. my first playthrough was amara on easy mode (tend to default to the siren as an all-rounder) and just thought the orange swarm was a product of easy mode (ie instead of making enemies easier it just gave you better stuff) but playing moze on regular it happened again.

i used to be, but too many hours of inventory management and learning the complex instinctive maths of loot sorting it's got to the point where i glance at something and decide in a few seconds if i'm gonna use it or leave it. only ever hoard legendaries because often what looks like garbage stats turns out to be awesome when the special effect kicks in.

People saying the enemies are a bit 'samey' mustn't have got off Pandora, the enemy variation is brilliant in this game, just wait till you hit those Malawan asshats teleporting everywhere....argh! :D

i think it's more that there's fewer enemies that require specific strats to beat or that are easier to beat as certain characters.

so like in in bl1 the larva crab worms with their microscopic weak spot, the eridian gaurdians being trivial to mordecai, shock weapons being a bad idea in the ned dlc or the elemental troopers in knoxx had you constantly switching types, bl2 you'd want to be using acid on loaders but shock on stalkers, crystalisks you wanted to punch etc.

aside from the bosses/minibosses in bl3 most enemies boil down to hit them while strafing around so they don't hit you.

Yeah i agree to a large extent, also i think you can get away with a weapon type a lot more in 3 than 2, i found in 3 you can use fire on most enemies and its pretty effective but in 2, using fire on robots was like peeing in the wind :D

Yep, you can just use one gun for everything never really need to switch.

Its a shame because blowing the arms and legs off loaders was terrific fun in bl2

Ah, I thought it was just me. So, even for you guys who have been playing the game a long time, it's still the same in later playthroughs? Choice of guns doesn't really matter as much as it did in Borderlands 2?

I rarely change weapons mid battle now, where in Borderlands 2 I was swapping all the time during fights.

Just wanted to ask you about the VIP mails. When is the best time to open the rewards on your character? Do they open at whatever level you are at? Or have they a level limit?
I have a few VIP shift mails and toybox ones etc.
