I think that's what mine is doing! Did a reformat recently and put on the latest drivers (whatever are currently available on ati site, think 10.7) and about every half an hour or so the game locks up, I have to ctrl alt del out and back in, wait a min or so, then it all comes back....
With regards to the 10.7 drivers i discovered that (for me) the memory leak was caused by the foliage, i posted this on the gearbox forum a while back:
After getting Borderlands to work perfectly on an older driver, i was forced to update to 10.7 get another game to work and then began the crashing!
Earlier today i turned down all the graphics settings in Borderlands and began turning them on one by one.
It would seem that the foliage is causing the memory leak - setting the Foliage detail to Low slows the memory increase considerably, but only if there is a lack of foliage nearby.
If you go to the 'Middle of Nowhere' place in Rust Common East and stand with your back to it, looking at this view:
The memory leak is quite obvious and rapidly shoots up whether you have it set to High or Low.
When setting the Foliage to Low, I have noticed that when you go to a new area (load a transition), Borderlands resets the memory back to around 8-900,000K. Set to High, it does not do this and in most cases increases it instead.
The speed of the increase in memory usage is also determined by Texture Resolution which can be set using the
Borderlands Configuration Editor
I currently have mine set to 512 and Foliage to Low and can play for quite some time without any problems..... so far about 2 hours.
... Just figured out how to disable foliage:
In the WillowEngine.ini file, find and change this from 1 to 0:
[SystemSettings]
FoliageDrawRadiusMultiplier=0.000000
And now...
There is no leak
Maybe this will help with 10.8 but i cannot use any driver above 10.4 as, when using ATI Overdrive the memory clock gets stuck on the 3D settings in 2D mode and makes the card rather unnecessarily hot.
