Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

Sent Firefox install to it remotely from the Play Store, now I can browse while I drive *

*I won't actually browse while I drive.

Works alright it does too :)

The wallpaper background probably isn't staying, btw, just wanted to see what different ones looked like!. The homescreen won't be around for long once universal Android Auto hits the Play Store of course.

I have a three sim in there at the minute.

What launcher is that? Looks like you made the unit unique to yourself already!

I'm an android noob, what tweaks etc would you recommend I install on mine?

Also are you finding that the sound quality to be very flat from the radio?

Sim card ordered :)

Sound quality is alright, not as rich as the Parrot was, but still better than the stock BMW head units. I just want the bass to be a bit richer as it's lacking in that department, even with loudness enabled.

XDA forums shows a guide on how to re-route audio from the Rockchip IC to the Android IC (higher quality) because these Chinese makers have routed it via the former which is poor quality and mixed the EQ bands virtually. Obviously this requires soldering, and I CBA with that as everything is installed and I don't want to remove it again!

That's via GoneMad music player by the way, using PowerAmp and the bass is much better, so software can improve it somewhat, I just need to know what PowerAmp does, and emulate that via another sound tuning app so it applies to GoneMad.

Radio audio seems fine, I only listen to radio for news and stuff, so no bother with that.

Edit*
As for launcher, I use Nova Launcher Prime, the gestures support makes it very neat. Use it on my phone too. Just looking at weather and GPS widgets, so the homescreen displays some useful info when not navigating

Very shiny, looks much nicer then the old one, nice and snappy to.

I really want a touch screen head unit again, bloody Z4 and its single din.

I am thinking of getting one, but they do cost a small fortune Pioneer who I like and my last 2 head units have been is £500 last I looked and being a windows phone user I really want Microsoft to sort out support for screen sharing in cars before I spend that sort of money on a non compatible device. Was hoping with the release of windows 10 they would have done that, its the one real issue I have with my phone.

Edit there now £400~ish in price

I want to get my front seats refurbed, but wondering if I should just pull the plug on the new head unit..

I'd like to try the Navall 3, just as an alternative, but would need extension leads + reverse camera.. I'm not sure about DAB, and I would wire in the iCarly lead to allow iCarly to be run on the head unit for coding/obd duties.

Depends on what is priority for you really.

I have fixed the sound quality issue.

I installed (after rooting) Viper4Android FX and set it up, then enabled a custom EQ and flatted out the GoneMad built in EQ with negative pre-amplification so I could boost it back up with Viper.

Now the sound quality is excellent with rich deep bass with no distortion. On some levels it's better than the Parrot as the bass wasn't this strong with that.

Chuffed!

Oh, one thing happened today while playing music, the USB unmounted itself and wouldn't work again. I don't know if it's a loose connection at the back though so gonna undo the glovebox to reach in there to investigate. USB port 2 works fine. Hoping port 1 hasn't died...

Edit*
USB port isn't dead, the USB extension going from the back worked loose somehow, must have been when I was pushing the head unit into the console. Like electricity, chose the path of least resistance and removed the glovebox to reach into the centre console and pull the USB cables out and tuck in excess leads back there.

It's only been a day and I've actually not used it for a full journey yet with navigation, so will update on Sunday when I do :)

So far though now that I've faffed around with root, tweaks and other stuff, it's pretty great, and the one area where I always had concerns (sound quality), is no longer an issue.

Just hope it doesn't suddenly die or something, because that would suck!

Also the GPS timezome has set itself to the UK now. I guess it takes a few sessions for the GPS module to update timezones. I also like the fact that it picks up my home WiFi from the driveway Connects at 72Mbps. This is good news for when I travel to frequent locations with WiFi, just store them up and let the head unit automatically leach :D

What's the best stuff to clean the roof on a convertible? I tried some stuff and it made hardly any difference (can't remember the name of it). I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks

I found Autoglym fabric hood cleaner and preserver kit to be most useful.

It cleans off dirt nicely and keeps rain balling off for a few months. It won't restore the unmarked black finish of your roof if it's like that though, that's a different kind of treatment.
