Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

Edit*

Fopund out what is going on with my MK60 codings.

So I read the MK60 with Expertmode (Expertmodus) and that's fine, it saves the trc file and I can open it and view the values as above.

Making the correct changes for my car, then saving it as the MAN file and then switching NCS to the Fister profile, then changing job type to code and hitting execute job results in NCS saying coding finished. But then when I re-read the MK60 and check the TRC file, the MAN file changes have not been saved to the MK60 as it's still showing the stock M Track changes for CS/CSL. This will explain why I'm finding M Track doesn't last as long as I expected before DSC kicks in since I don't have the CS/CSL steering rack or brakes and as suchk the values need to be changed as per the PDF file instructions.

So does this sound like a profile issue in NCS Expert? I'm on version 4.0.1 and this is my profile list:
NCSExpert.jpg

Obviously my install of NCS is fine, since I was able to enable M Track, read the modules and do everything else. It's the flashing the MAN file to the MK60 that isn't saving the changes. I reckon I'm not on the right profile and no idea why there is more than one Fister profile showing.

I had some erroroneous profiles provided as well..

Just one quick check, when you save the FSW_PSW.MAN, are you sure you are viewing file extensions in explorer? otherwise you accidentally end up with FSW_PSW.MAN.TXT or similar on disk.. that fooled me the first time..

The instructions I followed for the final part where:
Tweaking the MK60 Settings:
1. Assuming you didn’t close NCS Expert, click file -> Load profile, and pick your profile that has
manipulation enabled (FISTER Profile or Revtor’s profile as mentioned in the requirements)
2. Hit “Process ECU” and pick the MK60 module
3. Click “READ ECU”
4. Browse to C:\NCSEXPER\WORK
5. Look for FSW_PSW.TRC and open it in notepad.
6. Apply whichever of the following changes are appropriate for your car:
a. If you have non-ZCP brakes, look for “DRUCKMODELL_HINTERACHSE” and set it to
“typ_2”
b. If you have the non-ZCP steering rack, look for “LENKWINKELKENNLINIE_2” and set it to
“wert_05”
c. If you have a convertible, set “BAUART_MK60” to “cabrio_m”
d. If you don’t have a functional M-track symbol, and don’t want to solder the LED, set
“DTC_LAMPE” to “nicht_aktiv”
i. This will make the DSC system act like the non-M DSC where a single press
makes the DSC symbol light up, and a long press makes the DSC and Brake lights
turn on.
7. Save the file as “FSW_PSW.MAN”
8. Change the job to “SG_CODIEREN”
9. Execute Job
Obviously editing anything else whilst I was at it..

If you have the wring profile, it will fail to write or code..

[edit] the other difference I see from your description is you read using one profile, then switch profiles before writing, I switched profiles, then did Process ECU->Reading ECU, made the changes, saved as .man and then changed jobs to SG_CODIEREN and executed that..

I've just checked my car, and luckily everything is as per your car, which has the correct CSL settings..

Yup first thing I do on Windows is enable show extensions!

Maybe I should just leave the CSL settings then lol. M Track still works, DSC doesn't apply brake, just controls the engine rpm and allows for a controlled slide without going "sideways" in the standard sense.

I probably do want to get the NCS profiles sorted though.

Which cable do you have, blue or silver with the switch on it? I have both but have been using the blue one as I can't figure out which switch position is best.

Hmm maybe I should try it with the switch at position 4 then like yours! I assumed 1 was for older cars... Will try in a few days as I'm too tired to even lift the laptop.

Also which Fister profile did you select for the writing phase? the one listed first or the one below it?

Some of my profiles wouldn't load as they where for an older version of ncs, something b cables must have sorted out since.

I did have a revtor one that worked, and I think so did the expertmoden (offen).. basically if you can read the mk60 and can select sg codieren as a job, it'll work.

Or that was my experience!

How strange then, could my Evolve remap have locked module ECUs down from being modified perhaps? Can't see how that would affect the Mk60 though. I'll try the silver cable in position 4 soon.

Guys whats the recommend PSI for air on the tyres on the front and back of the M3 E46?
I have mine at around 35psi???

As for that guy saying mobile skip, hes just envious of the car thats all.

35 is a bit high unless you're constantly hauling a lot of weight!

You'll find the correct pressures on your driver side door sill plate. Mine is 34 rear and 32 front.

This is what 99% of comments are like on the road whenever I drive around towns :p

Open your drivers door and the recommended pressure is on the sticker.

There you go. I had to buy the tyre pressure sticker because mine didn't come with it for some reason.

It works out to be 33PSI FR, and 35PSI RR.

Hmm I got the CSL pressures off cutters forum, although searching now shows 33 front and 35 rear. Gonna have to re-adjust :o

You would think it would be 35 at the front because of the weight of the engine tbh. i think im just gonna leave mine on 35 for both, the front will come down abit anyhow over next few weeks

Rears should be more as they're wider and lower profile tyres.

The car has 50/50 weight distribution - it's one of the selling points of more sporting BMW's. That means same weight front and rear.

The rear tyres are wider, thus higher pressure.

Just out of interest, what size tyres are people running?

Normal = 225/40/19 and 255/40/19

CSL = 235/35/19 and 265/30/19

Oversized = 245/35/19 and 275/30/19

Mine came with standard fronts + csl sized rear tyres,. but I've since gone for CSL front/back and find they track/feel perfect.. I like having a little more rubber for grip etc..

The funny thing is, if you go to various tyre sites that you enter your reg and it tells you your tyre size, I either get standard or CSL sizes offered.. e.g. Blackcircles suggest CSL sizes..

I'm contemplating swapping my vaguely CSL like wheels for some more pukka CSL reps, for £500 I think it's not too bad considering they will be factory fresh.
