Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

I've been in and driven plenty of cars with heated seats, while they're nice initially, they soon get a bit too ott and makes you feel odd.

I've really never understood it when people say it though? Do they wet themselves that often that they can draw a decent comparison between heated seats on a high end BMW to them urinating in their pants? Does their back also get slightly warm when they have one of the aforementioned "accidents"?

The lowest setting on BMW's is spot on after the initial warm up. If they get too hot, the likelihood is that the temperature sensor to the rear of the lower seat section has broken.

But overall, I genuinely couldn't give a monkeys about having heated seats, it wasn't a tick box on my want list then, and still isn't, because it really isn't an essential item. Nappa leather warms to body heat near instantly. I can't speak for other cars/models though.

I remember you slightly wanted them ;) Granted nappa leather isn't as bad as BMW's Dakota leather options but it's still a must for a daily car.
Maybe some people need to man up more :p

No it's just a figure of speech, surely you know what a damp piece of clothing feels like? Just drawing an example off that. Like when people say "tastes like ass", nobody actually goes round tasting ass :p

I've always maintained they'd be nice to have, but never essential, and neve something I had on my list of requirements. They are not important items, there are far more things that are better to have than heated seats.

Your seats are obviously faulty if they give out moisture as well as heat. My heated seats feel nothing like urinating myself nor damp clothing.

The highest setting does however give third degree burns if bare skin touches them

Who said anything about seats giving out moisture?! I said it's an odd feeling, doesn't feel natural like warm air coming out of a fan.

Personally It's not something I find comfortable. Maybe nice to have for some situations, and on low setting, but not something I would look forward to using. No car with heated pad based seats has left me impressed to the point where I'm sat there wagging a virtual tail about having them in a car one day.

Like PSS tyres, I think heated seats are one of those internet hype items.

What do you mean, as in will it blow up once it hits 100k mileage? It's a high performance N/A petrol engine, it will last as long as any other reliable engine providing it's serviced properly, and to schedule.

Mine was on ~62K, now on 89K, doesn't feel any different to when I got it, apart from the nicer induction noise and slight power bump of course :p

Heated seats, for when you want that “have I just wet myself?” feeling :p

I would really like an air scarf though, that is one feature of some convertibles that really is excellent and genuinely useful.

Don’t know about the tailor in Winchester, my tailor is in Portsmouth, also an oriental though! Maybe a joke gone way over my head?!

Air scarf and heated steering wheel for me would be the ideal combo if I had a convertible.

As for the tailor, it's my gf's parents business, we are oriental and they are tailors :D

Ah! Sadly Winchester is a bit of a trek (and I loathe the one way system in the centre) to get something adjusted, else I'd go there just because small world and all that

Perhaps the simplest answer is the most suitable one for some then, I just don't like it 90% of the time because it's not comfortable, so I don't care about it.

I know what you mean.

I also hate night vision, surround view cameras and the second turbo on a 535d, for much the same reasons :D

Completely different things  Heated mirrors remove frost/mist and water so you can see your blind spots.

Yeah but not all cars have heated mirrors. Also my comment was more about your thoughts about heated seats being an internet hype thing? Not sure what makes you think that.

I wouldn't go as far as saying heated seats are a must because I'm looking to buy a cheap hack and it won't have them but for any decent car I'd say they're high up there on my requirements, we have enough cold days here to need them IMO, much like heated mirrors are useful on those same days!

The comments above in this thread about how amazing heated seats are. I've also seen it on other forums, although they are one marque forums, so we can probably instantly disregard anything said on those places.

Anything to take away the stress of knowing there's a dirty diesel under the hood I suppose? ;)
