I've heard that more than once
I've come across a few interesting facts today about the E46 M3 that I simply never knew about.
Hold DSC button in for more than 20 sec, DSC sign goes off and cannot be turned back on again unless car is restarted, car goes into service mode, can be dynoed up to redline and all electronic systems are off
. The gas pedal is normally mapped (fuel flow vs pedal travel) using the sport button, with kind of a logarithmic curve, so that the fuel applied for a given amount of pedal push is initially less (helps smoothness around town), but at the endpoint, is still able to reach full throttle, because the curve gets steeper as the pedal approaches the end of its travel (think of it like a quarter-pipe ramp). By contrast, with sport mode on, the mapping is more linear, so that half pedal travel gives you half throttle (and so on), but full throttle is still at full pedal travel (pedal to the floor), I always thought Sport button on increased digital pedal input as opposed to being half pedal = half opem throttle etc.
Hold DSC button in for more than 20 sec, DSC sign goes off and cannot be turned back on again unless car is restarted, car goes into service mode, can be dynoed up to redline and all electronic systems are off
At a certain higher RPM the ac compressor turns off if your running the ac to give more power to the car.
1st gear on manual gearbox es is protected once you start downshifting from higher RPMs unless your manually rev match.
The windscreen heater comes on automatically when you start the car and it's at or below 3 degrees outside.
Cold Start Function warms up the drivetrain and exhaust components faster for the first 45 seconds or so. You can bypass this by turning the car fully off, then back on again, but car will take longer to warm up when you start to pull away. This explains why by the time I've got to the end of my road, the vents are already blowing hot air. After idling 45 seconds at startupyou'll hear a tonal change in the exhaust and a slight buzz from the engine area as the car shifts to normal running mode.
. Washer nozzles and door locks are heated, the door locks are preheated based on outside temp to stop them freezing when you try to unlock the car on a frosty morning.
. Using the parking lights feature (indicator stalk left or right when parked up and car is off) draws lower voltage than normal. You can even leave it in parking/standing light mode all night without draining the battery.
"Entrance Aid" is a coding feature (can be done with Carly) that unlocks the door and lowers the driver side window when you press the unlock button twice within 5 seconds. Assume someone has parked next to you too close, and you can get in to your car properly, having the window lowered allows greater access to your car. When you are in and you close the door, the window automatically tolls itself back up.
Every time you start the car, the AC vents move around to stop unwanted bad buildup in any specific vent.
There is a sun sensor in the middle of the dash just below the windscreen. It's visible from the outside only in the same if a rectangle outline.

The glovebox has a rechargeable torch socket that has an optional accessory adapter dongle that turns it into a 12v lighter socket. This means you don't need to hard wire in a 12v socket from the fuse box via a fuse tap to get a charging socket in the glovebox...
