Bourbon, Rye and American Whiskey

Jack No. 7 on the rocks can be a bit burny, but I love it mixed with Coke. Somehow that seems bring out the natural sweetness of Jack No. 7. YMMV

I just drink straight, no ice.

To be honest, it's really growing on me. It is a little burny but you get used to it, and actually a really nice flavour on top. Not bad for a £20 bottle.

Quite a good way to distinguish tastes.

I have a bottle of makers mark and pennypacker, both good bourbons in their own right, the later bring sour mash.

Quite destinctively different.

Aside from that, a n general I notice the price of bourbon is up a bit over the last 3-4 weeks, I keep an eye on the markets, Amazon local supermarkets and no good deals on at the moment.

Another one to add to the list, John B. Stetson, paid £29, been watching it for ages and not seen it go on offer and wanted to give it a go for a long time.

Very nice bottle actually, it's silky smooth, tried it straight after some Pennypacker. It's lacks the flavour punch of the Pennypacker, but also lacks the slight burn you get with that one also, and the flavour still isnt bad at all, so overall pretty damn good. I defo had worse bottles that I have paid more for.

Wasn't sure where to post this, Sainsburys are doing Jack Daniels Honey 1l for £20, saw it online, went to my local Sainsbury's and the 70cl next to it is £25.

Wasn't anything to say the 1l bottle was on offer either, maybe a price error. Never tried it so thought I would give it a go.

Let me know if it's any good.

I bought a bottle of wild turkey 101 which I guess is the slightly more premium version of the standard wild turkey, although I am aware there are others, rare breed etc.

Gotta say, not overly impressed. I mean I like wild turkey, it's a nothing special but not bad either, this one is nothing over the standard version imo, other than the price.

I have got a bottle of Blanton's Original Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon for the Christmas period.

Should be good it isn't cheap that one!

Oh I forgot to mention another one I've tried is called Brough Brother's, apparently they are pretty new to the scene and a very small company but the bourbon is great, you can get it on Amazon about £28

Opened it over Christmas, very nice. Still smooth, perhaps not as smooth as the standard Woodford, not tried that in ages though. I'm pretty useless at distinguishing different flavours.
I got it on offer, not sure I would buy it at full price, as the standard is very good.
If you ever get it I would love to hear your thoughts as well, I'm pleased I tried it, and am enjoying it all the same.:)

Cool, thanks for letting me know.

I got one for Xmas called fighting ****, something like 51% it's relatively smooth but kinda has that kinda warmth thing going - it's a bit like Knob Creek if you've ever tried that.

I wouldn't say it's the best bottle I've ever had but it's not bad and another ticked off the list.

No ... but,
had I not just bought a 1litre regular for £30 at xmas, I would have probably bitten; eagle rare being the previous offer they made, I couldn't refuse.

It's okay, like a punchier version of the regular makers mark, I personally don't think it's worth the price over the regular.

But thanks for marking the offer.

IF I am drinking with coke honestly good old regular Jack Daniels in my opinion, its got a bit of a bitter kick to it with balances off with teh coke.

I hardly ever have bouron with coke though.

I ventured onto the whiskey exchange to get 4 slightly more obscure (atlhough not expensive) bottles I have not tried before. First of which is "Kentucky's Old Reserve" which reading the bottle is actually bottled in Florida, but hey.

Plastic scew cap didnt inspire confidence but its not actually that bad, nothing special I wouldnt buy it again, but another one ticked off the list.

Seeing some of the posts above - if I'm mixing with coke pretty much always JD - just not enough difference with anything nicer so it would be a waste of good whiskey and I'd try and avoid anything much cheaper - some of them are bad enough even coke isn't enough to mask it.

Some of the cheaper ones are not too bad especially with coke.

Old Samuel isnt terrible, I can just about drink that straight sure it'd be ok in coke and its a good but cheaper than JD.

3rd bottle out of the 4 is American Eagle, the 4 year (cheaper) version.

Not quite as smooth as the Ezra brooks but slightly more flavour, so on par really.

Technically it's a Tennessee whiskey like Jack Daniel's, but really bourbon/Kentucky Straight/Tennessee whiskey... whatever.
