Brazilian Grand Prix 2012, São Paulo - Race 20/20

Tricky corner in the dry (as mentioned on BBC commentary a few times)
Tricky conditions
Unknown quantity directly inside him

LH shouldnt have put himself in that position

I will admit , its a very fine line, but thats what F1 is about. LH is meant to be one of the best drivers in the world, he didnt NEED to push on that one corner to win the race

edit - wait right behind until the DRS zone and cruise past him, no danger at all. LH yet again pushes a bad position and pays for it

Where exactly was he meant to go? Hulkenberg went up the inside, Hamilton stayed wide behind the backmarker and Hulkenberg lost control and and slid into him. What did you expect Hamilton to do? Hulkenberg had more than enough space, he just lost the back end which you can't be expected to predict! I can't imagine any other driver doing anything differently.

Hulkenberg was unlucky to have the back snap out on him like that and as a result, it was unlucky for Lewis too. They could probably have driven that move another 50 times and the back wouldn't have snapped the way it did and they'd have both made the corner perfectly well.

If you spend your entire race not engaging anyone who challenges you for fear that they might hit you, you'll be at the back of the grid fairly quickly.

I view that as very different type of incident to the sort where the defending driver unnecessarily tries to squeeze someone, cut them off etc. when it's clear it won't work.

Quite. Very few options left once the Hulk had lost the rear end of his car, and if you look at the slow-mo replay he was already sliding on the last or second-last downshift heading into the corner. Nothing much either driver could have done differently really, unless we're condemning Nico for even daring to try and overtake!

Exactly. People were overtaking in the first corner all race, Hulkenberg/Hamilton were just unlucky.

I don't think it was unlucky that Hulk crashed the leader. He went for an aggressive passing attempt on a damp part of the track and he should have braked earlier. It was an amateur mistake really.

However there was a Caterham in front of them that complicated the whole corner. Under other circumstances Hulk might have just released the brake and tried to go straight on, conceding the move to Hamilton. But he couldn't do that because the Caterham was there.

Well precisely. Did we expect Hamilton to jam on the brakes and go round the corner at 1/4 pace with the other 2 off in the distance?? Of course not, he's an F1 driver and he did the sensible thing in this instance and left a decent amount of room on a damp track - unfortunately when the other driver loses control there's not much you can do.

It's funny, but if it the roles had been reversed and it was Hamilton sliding into Hülkenberg in that move, it would have course be impossible for it to be anything other than a racing incident...

Sky have really stirred up a hornets nest with their opinion of the flag. Loads of skySheep are bombarding Twitter with rants even though Ferrari haven't protested, the FIA aren't investigating it and no one else appears to care :D

The truth of the matter is that had Alonso won the WDC, its more of "lucking into it"....
I'll bet not many of us though the possibility was there that both Hamilton and Hulkenberg would have ended up taking each other out....

The FIA have now even confirmed themselves that it was a red/yellow flag and definitely NOT a yellow. That's clear enough for me.
