Brazilian Grand Prix 2012, São Paulo - Race 20/20

Jake's leaving? I didn't watch it until the end, did he say why? Who is Bernie?

Jake - even though I can't stand the guy did a sterling job.

Jake's moving to BT Vision to front their Football coverage. Having had a couple of kids its a UK based job and I expect BT are paying him well for it.

The Bernie references are a joke they made that Jake's replacement would be Eclestone.

What is this flag thing?

Massive downer now its all over.

On the race.
Did pic let petrov through? I would have.
Lh was unlucky with being taken out
But so were hulkenburg and button to loose a 40 second lead to safety car.. Think it could have easily been button and hulkenburg followed by Hamilton on podium
Massa did an amazing job for Alonso
Vettel was lucky to continue after first lap but unlucky to be hit.
KR finished every race. Nice cross country
Alonso looked.. Mythed
Driver of the day... Would have said NH but for the incident, dunno

Forum meet would be cool

Well that was an exciting race. Nice for Jenson to end the season with a win, such a shame for Lewis ending his career with McLaren that way.

Very reluctantly say congratulations to Seb on his third WDC.

For me is was a great season and hoping more of the same next year.

Lol at Bernie. Happy soul.

He really is a miserable old *******.

I'm assuming you watched the BBC coverage al4x?

Sky got hold of some footage that seemed to show Vettel overtaking Kobayashi under yellow flags. They ran with it all through the race and for a lot of the time after it. Turns out it was the yellow and red striped flag for slippery surface so all's fine.

Sky have really stirred up a hornets nest with their opinion of the flag. Loads of skySheep are bombarding Twitter with rants even though Ferrari haven't protested, the FIA aren't investigating it and no one else appears to care :D

What is that all about..?

Enjoyed the race glad Alonso didn't win.

Gutted for Lewis to end with Mclaren in a poor way but great for Jenson.

I'm still not convinced for Perez being at Mclaren is a good move but time will tell.

Someone posted a stat a race or two ago of how many point's lewis lost this year and it was far more than Button. Anyone remember where that post was or who made it?

Mclaren are going to have to build a car with 7/10ths on anyone next year to get a shot at the title. I just don't think with Whitmarsh at the helm they have that in them. Whitmarsh should be gone, a genuine title contender with both drivers doing little wrong and they stuffed it.

I do feel the FIA need to make a statement to stop stuff like Schumacher yielding, this isn't a International competition where you move over because of a fellow German you like. I'm sure people would have been upset had Renault decided to move Petrov and Kubica out the way in Abu Dhabi in 2010 to help out their old 'mate'. Although I'm damn sure that would have happened had Flav still been in charge ;)

Interesting you say that in the same thread as other people saying Hamilton should have not fought Hulk and just let him past.

We've also talked a lot on here about how drivers should or shouldn't let people through. If it was a Caterham or a HRT in the way people would be expecting them to yield.

What if Schumacher had fought and had taken Vettel out and been the deciding factor?

I don't think the FIA need to get involved in penalizing drivers for yielding. Where would the line be? Massa letting Alonso past is OK, a Torro Roso letting a Red Bull past is wrong, a HRT letting a title Challenger past is OK but a midfielder letting them past is wrong? It would be an unmanageable mess.

Yeah if i have the choice I prefer BBC anyway and skygo on the plasma doesn't look as good as BBC hd lol

Thanks for clearing that up. Never even saw it

The BBC, Ferrari, Red Bull and the FIA didn't pick up on it at all, but Sky had a field day with it. Unfortunately its fueled a bunch of people to now fired cheating claims at RBR. Twitter is full of them.

It's hardly surprising though. From the onboard camera they both looked solid yellow. So why wouldn't they run with it. It could off made a massive difference to the outcome.

They seemed to completely miss that neither the FIA or Ferrari had noticed it. You would have thought that would have set the alarm bells ringing. Car positions and yellow flag zones are computer controlled so it would have been automatically flagged to race control had it been an illegal overtake.

Brundle had already tweeted that it was an oil flag before Ted interviewed Ferrari about it and McNish and Georgie did their big analyzing piece. Simon was still asking Horner about it 30 minutes after the race had finished.

They didn't miss it. Brundle who use to race even thought it was yellow. They even suggested that they lifted off the throttle letting Vettel by and hence not a proper overtake.

Be nice if someone's got a DSLR shot of it, as it certainly looked solid yellow in onboard. Maybe onboard camera for that distance and speed is to low resolution, or maybe they put wrong "flag" out, it wouldn't be the first time.

I think it's great they picked up on it and ran with it. People just need to keep up with the news and don't post crap.

Post race quote from Kimi:

Kimi said:
Where I went off you can get back on the track by going through the support race pit lane, but you have to go through a gate. I know this as I did the same thing in 2001 and the gate was open that year. Somebody closed it this time. Next year I'll make sure it's open again.
