I'm not going to call Verstappen's performance yesterday great as most are. He was on a wets that were 20 laps fresher so it was inevitable he'd have more grip than everyone else (Ricciardo excepted). It was an entertaining fight back through, but it wasn't a Barcelona 96 moment like some were claiming - it wasn't even close.

I disagree, even before he pitted for the fresh wets, he was still much braver/more confident that anyone else out there. He breezed past Rosberg, and while I don't think he would have been able to put Hamilton under any real pressure, he was the stand out driver in the conditions.

Not sure how people can rate this race a 1 - whilst I agree at least some of the decisions were dubious and the waiting was obviously boring, the actual racing was exciting, with some real edge of your seat moments (because the actual "risk" element was more real, and the driving was a lot "closer to the limit" than we normally see).

Oh don't get me wrong, he was very good and fun to watch, but Rosberg wasn't too bothered about letting him go (he was pulling clear of Verstappen in the first phase of the race, then settled in a nice distance behind Verstappen in the second phase, quite happy with 3rd).

Personally I just don't think, as spectacular as he was, that he was even driver of the day, let alone ranked among what is commonly considered one of the all-time great drives (up there with Donington 1993, Monza 1967 and Nordschleife 1957).

Driver of the day has to be Max. In wet conditions there is no one on the current grid can touch him. It was disappointing that Red Bull messed up the strategy, if they would have followed Mercedes plan then Max would have won the race by a mile. Rosberg is doing what he has to do and Hamilton is doing what he has to do. Its a very important championship for both drivers because I think it will be there last. Red Bull will run the show next season. The big question is will all the technical staff and management remain at Mercedes or will they follow the F1 trend and move on at the perfect time?

If they didn't pit VES for inters then he would have surely kept Rosberg behind him but caught and overtook Hamilton? I'm not so sure.

Hamilton was lapping more than 3/10ths a lap quicker after the second safety car, presumably in response to Vestappen having passed Rosberg behind him.

I don't think Max would've caught Hamilton. Hamilton was already pulling away from him when they were 1-2 anyway. Hamiltons' hardly a muppet in the wet. Not quite a Senna or a Schumacher but not far off.

We will never know. The main reason that Max was so fast in the last stint was tyre life. Hamilton and co had all been on the same set of full wet.. Max came back to change to a new set which were 30+ laps newer.

Not to take anything away (I voted 9 because of the Max drive) from him, but don't forget that we've seen Alonso set fastest laps with low fuel and a new set of supersofts. Tyres are everything in this era.. Max was simply making the most of the situation (rightly so) and it was further helped by the other drivers tip-toeing around the track.

If you want to say "best in the wet" I'd have to disagree and say that Lewis at Silverstone 2008 is still the most superior wet weather drive of most recent time. Before that, I'd say Senna at Monaco 1984 in the Toleman.

Back on topic: I couldn't help but sigh at Massa crashing out. Not only did it totally ruin the finale but his final home race will be forever remembered as the time he binned it from the midfield and went on to spend 5 minutes walking down the pitlane, never to be seen again.

I disagree with Massa, at the time I thought the same but then again he had the chance to lap up the applause and what not from the crowd and walk to the pitlane soaking in the emotions / getting emotional and those photographs of him with the Brazil flag on his back as he walked towards the pitlane are very poignant indeed.

If he hadn't have crashed we wouldn't have seen any of that and he/we wouldn't have experienced those emotions in quite the same way.

Voted 8 out of 10, Max made it very entertaining to watch. Rosberg was very lucky to get 2nd IMO, had Max not been messed around with his tires by the team he would easily have taken him, the fact that Vettel fell of the track and Ricci was boned in his pitstops too made it for him. Hamilton did what he had to do, it was a very measured and controlled drive and if Max had shown his nose I think Lewis would have just sped up and maintained a gap.

Looking forward to the final race, I still want Hamilton to win but do not want to see it decided by an engine failure either way. If Rosberg wins I think it may well make a man out of him and he will hopefully stop acting like a nob on and off the track.

Those who say they wouldn't like to see the WDC decided by an engine issue forget that it already has.

I've conceded it will take a miracle now for Hamilton to win this. Even if he does play clever in Abu Dhabi and control the race, backing Rosberg up into traffic, the team will undoubtedly screw him over by giving Rosberg pit priority or a bad tyre call for Hamilton.

Wasn't this also the same race that Hamilton was leading relatively comfortably? Yeah, remember that.

An excellent drive from Vestappen yesterday, watched the highlights today. It sucks how much i seem to read 'Rosberg has been lucky' 'Rosberg has only had x engine failures in comparison to hamilton's Y'

I posted this a few years ago, it will be an absolute farce if Rosberg leaves with the drivers championship. Unfortunately, I think it's pretty much set in stone though it seems.

It is easy to say Lewis has lost the title due to reliablity, but then you could say he won his 2008 title thanks to Massa's engine blowing 3 laps to the end at Hungary.....he has had good fortune and bad that's the way it goes.

I doubt anyone will believe Nico is a better driver than him no matter the outcome of this year.

I'm not forgetting anything, but who wants yet another engine failure to decide the title in the last race of the season? What a complete snore fest that would be.

You know, Lewis' best chance to win this could be to crash into Rosberg early on and pray he gets lucky and carries on with little damage whilst Rosberg goes out :D

I really hope not as that would be stooping to Rosberg's level. More likely Rosberg hits Hamilton who comes away unscathed. Now that would be sweet :D

Back to reality, I hope Rosbergs bare minimum approach bites him somehow.
