It would be unreached before levels of farce if they drag it out for 5 days just to not change the decision.

To be fair they had to travel half way across the world right after the race so there wasn't really any time to do it earlier. Think everyone wanted to make sure they get there on time, especially after the transit delays between Mexico and Brazil.

Great. Max is free to run everybody off the road for the next 3 races. Ridiculous.

Only way Merc can win now is to initiate Bottas missile.

Worse result for the sport, free game now when defending.
Leclerc has already said he'll rethink how he defends
Sadly I fear that if the exact same thing happens but its not Max then the outcome will be different. It really does open up a non level playing field which does nothing for the integrity or safety of the sport.

Christian Horner
It's obviously the right decision because it would have opened a Pandora's box of a whole load of incidents at that race.

Did he forget that they did the same thing after Silverstone but using evidence they made using Albon?

If anyone does a Max on Max, it's an accident and potential DNF for both cars as Max doesn't generally yield (apart from turn 1 at US).

Christian putting most of his effort into talking about the Merc rear wing.
Christian on the Merc being fast and suspicions on the rear wing: "if we see it here, it will be protested"

Apparently new footage has been deemed relevant but not significant

Reading the decision it seems correct, IMO. The new footage doesn't change anything so it does not form grounds for appeal.

Does anyone else find the wording of this decision bizarre? The way they talk about "the stewards" in the third person when - in fact - this document was judged and written by the same people who made the first decision.

I think the problem with all this is there's no way for the stewards to admit they got it wrong whilst not changing the outcome, so mistakes can be recognised and acknowledged for the future. They should be able to hold their hands up and go "yeah, okay, this was the wrong decision, let's try and be better next time", instead they've basically handed open season to dirty defending.

Lol I can almost hear the tears in this thread
Not about tears but driving standards, they have now set a precedent that you can now push someone full off the track by not taking the corner yourself.

Max has always defending by let someone go outside of him then he pushes them wide but this is a whole new level.

Christians answer in the press conference just prior to announcement:

"Is it new? Potentially. Is it relevant? One could potentially argue that as well. Is it significant? Absolutely not. There were enough camera angles for the stewards to make their decisions, I think we've seen numerous incidents both in the sprint race, during the Grand Prix, and indeed on the first lap of the grand prix with Valtteri taking identical lines. So... I'd be surprised, I'd be disappointed if it was to go for another hearing.

"The danger for the FIA with this is if they do go down this route then every incident from now on will be questioned. There'll be evidence from iPhones, or spectators phones, there will always be something which is deemed as new or relevant or significant. I think the stewards made their call, it was a non-issue, it was two drivers racing hard. Both went in deep, went in late, both went off the circuit. Where do you draw that line? The competitors are going to push every angle that they can but I really don't see the relevance of it and I think it sets a dangerous precedent if this incident is re-opened."

They're always written in that perspective

Expected outcome really. You get this all the time in football. They very very rarely come out an admit fault after a mistake from the officials. The only thing that would have changed this is if the new footage showed Max steering into Hamilton essentially.

It was clear what Max did the first time we saw it and it was just as clear the 10th time and after the new footage came out. He left it far too late to get on the brakes to make the corner so that he would be in front of Hamilton and then made very very little attempt to try and remain on the track as much as possible.
