Breaking a padlock :D

Unless you have a diamond cutting disk or drill I suspect your tools are not going to be up to it. The locating pin looks like a coated hardened steel, and so will the body and pin of the padlock be. You might be able to drill out the barrel of the lock... but the body of the padlock has been designed to stall a drill bit big enough to do the job.

Long and short of it, if you wern't the muppet that broke the wrong key off in the lock then bill the muppet who was for the locksmith bill.

has anyone mentioned just cutting a big circular hole in the desk ?

then just pull the padlock and bar back out through the hole

;)

personally,
WD40 and a dental pick like that guy above suggested

I'm just waiting for my boss to get back from holiday so he can bring in his reciprocating saw :D

As has been said - PADLOCK SHIM!

Easy peasy lemon squeezy! ;-)

Won't work, generally the lock type he is having trouble with has ball bearings that are held in place by a solid chunk of steel to secure the pin.

Shim is only handy for locks with spring loaded catch.

Use pretty much any saw, drill. They ar designed to stall, not to stop a prolonged attack, might flake awhile but you'll get there. Or borrow a oxy propane touch and try not to set thenoffice on fire.
