Actually the chances of a land invasion on Britain is next to nothing.

That's why we don't really need half the stuff we've just lost.

Go to Aldershot and if you see anyone wearing a red coloured hat call them a faggot and make sure someone is filming it. Get that someone to then add the video on to the YouTube thread. It should be entertaining.

That is a fair point, the chances of any kind of State on State warfare, especially one threatening our own sovereignty in the UK is pretty remote (that may change however, who can say).

I think that by the time the next review comes around, probably sometime in the next Government, we will have a clearer picture of the change in tact that the Government have begun here.

I think that a small more effective armed forces is a good thing, with the emphasis on mobility and force projection, I think that the Carriers are essential in this and the expansion of the special forces also.

Oh come on, how exactly is dying in Afghan providing me with freedom? (or increased saftey for that matter).

We also don't technically have freedom of speech, its not enshrined anywhere.

I fully expect Groen to come in here any minute and complain about having to pay extra tax to cover the disability benefit payouts that will be needed for any increase in 'special' forces.

Yes, and its certainly more appropriate to what our role should be now.

Although we are going to have a problem with projection of power with air craft carriers with no birdies on them. But, it doesn't really matter.

Hopefully Washington will start to rope someone else into their escapades.

Don't talk poo, when was the last time martial law came into play within the UK? The British military are lead by some of the most level headed people in the country, may be if serving within the armed forces was the first stage of entering politics. The country would not be in the mess it is in now, the military know who's neck is for the block if a politician steps out of line.

2 or 3 hundred in the guardroom and thats about it, maybe a small ammo dump 5 minutes down the road in a non barracked area.
 
You think we fire every day? actually fire quite rarely but its kind of like riding a bike, and although many months may pass between my shoots, I generally improve each time. I'm in no way special but will never miss up to 200m, 300m I'll achieve 80%, 400m is weather dependent really but with a section firing at you you're in a lot of trouble out to 800m
 
I'm in the military and i eat babies for breakfast, for lunch i pop into town to shoot some women, followed by a massacre or two at teatime. Does that make me bad?

We have to follow orders but not if they're illegal, remember soldiers are people from the UK too and aren't exactly likely to want to imprison their own people who we are here to protect. Soldiers are normal people, we're not psychotic lunatics waiting to go on the rampage. I've served in various countries with people who are friendly to UK forces and ones that aren't but I treat them all the same way and thats absolutely fairly, friends expect that, but people with a dim view of the army are confused as they assume we will try to harm them but UK forces aren't like that and neither are the British people.

Ok maybe slight exaggeration, on our camp there are live firing exercises probably 2 times a week. Still a lot more than 300 rounds in the guard room.
