Are there actually any good deals? I've found "forces discounts" to be a bit of a swizz really. Usually if I shop around online or search for discount codes available to the general public I can often find a better deal anyway (then I have my cashback account too).

I just get a bit disgruntled by it all when I can get 10% (wow) anyway with my NUS card for doing distance learning. It feels like companies are just jumping on a forces bandwagon by appearing to come across as giving discount to a select few when really they are offered to pretty much anyone...when I'm in the US I get loads of free stuff thrown at me when shopping, I get HUGE discounts on pretty much EVERYTHING and I get bought my dinner and drinks for me by the Hooters girls/any random guy in *insert generic restaurant name here*.

Exactly this.

The Americans have the best system, showing my MOD90 let me in for free or half price, and was usually accompanied by 'thanks for helping us out in Afghan'. Loved it.

Majority of restaurants would give a min 10% discount, and at least %20 discount in hotels. If you are in the Armed Forces, visit America!!

You can get all sorts issued, whether your stores gives you them its another matter.

Our stores is a joke. Even though I could get issued the latest day sack, there is no chance I'll get it. Probs because I'm not off to afghan.

I was up for buying "gucci" webbing because I'm in for a lot of fun next year in the field.

But I'm using what webbing you get initial issue (which is barely anything) and using that good old bidding site, i've managed to get a shed load of issued pouches to make it up decent.

All I need is a hippo pad.

I am not holding my breath for the new boots either, it's impossible to get mtp waterproofs.

Why the stores are a joke everywhere is beyond me. On army net there is a service that is going online soon where you can order your kit online to pick up in stores..... jog on.

In my unit I would ask for what I want and get it, if they didn't have it in it would be demanded, I take it your stores are for storing not issuing.

The guy in our stores is ok.
I did a partial de-kit the other month as I'm out soon (this year :) ) and I didn't pay for anything I didn't have.
Unfortunately we're NRF for the next 12 months so I might be getting it all back!!

Not sure, I cannot access any other deals myself!

Got a call off my recruiter today from Stoke AFCO, seems like I've been waiting forever since the AFCO has been closed for Xmas/New years.

Medical documents were all fine and cleared by HQ and I've been invited to pre selection at Stafford on the 23rd of this month.

Pretty damn excited for it, been training hard and this gives me a clear goal and date to work even harder towards.

Would anyone like to share their pre selection/ADSC experiences? :)

If i remember correctly I attended a "pre selection" at Barry buddon, its was a firmly buckshee affair, it was run over a day by the local recruiting team, basically got a few half ****** briefs watched a couple videos, then got changed into phys kit did a few fitness assessments.
it all felt very poorly run with no effort put into it at all, just make sure you dont embarrass yourself at this stage, the impression i got was all this is for is to give the recruiters at the AFCO the warm fuzzy feeling to put you forward for selection.

My actual selection was done at Glencorse, a lot more professionally run setup, a lot more involving, plenty of briefings power point presentations and videos, properly organised fitness tests, command tasks, medicals, interviews etc etc it was an over nighter as well, probably the first proper taster into to how things will be, albeit a lot more pink and fluffy, but all in all nothing difficult as long as you go prepared, just try to stand out from the rest of the crowd, grey man at this stage is no good, you'll just end up waiting a hell of a lot longer to get in.
things might have changed since then though.

I did a pre-selection, then a pre-selection, then a 5k run in catterick, then ADSC :)

Until you actually goto ADSC it's all just a bit hap hazard and you may get invited along to things like this.

As is said above, the pre selection isn't a properly organised thing, different AFCOs might run it differently.

Mine was literally an hour or 2 down the local TA Centre then Park. Press ups, Sit ups, a daft command task then 1.5mile run.

People that were running 11mins + were still getting put forward onto ADSC, but once you turn up to that you should be aiming to please.

I ran 11.15 in my pre selection. Was put through pretty quick to adsc. I didn't do any extra days either just pre selection then adsc. Your time will drop as you go through selection then phase one.

Cheers guys will do!

Only thing I'm a tiny bit anxious about is pullups, my upper body strength is improving but it still isn't great, as I'm ploughing a lot of my time into cardio. Hopefully if I get a decent run, situps, command tasks and icebreaker they shouldn't hinder me too much! Bag lifts and jerry can should be fine it's just pullups that kill me haha. Gonna keep practicing them

To the Gym Rats thread for you. Good advice here to build that core strength and develop upper body too. DO as much phys now to make your life easier later.

Can you do any what so ever? To be honest, I wouldn't worry about it too much, the only thing they're really bothered about is cardio when you do the 1.5 mile run (+ 400m warmup). I think it's something like 13:30 minutes you get for it at ADSC, but they're looking for best effort, because once you actually get in, you really need to be doing it in 10:30, so if you can do it in that time at ADSC, you'll be sorted. Obviously, turning up as fit as possible will make you life a lot easier down the line though!

How is everyone enjoying being back at work? I'm already on leave again, starting course on Monday for 10 months, awesome!

Who's your recruiter? My mate's been working at Stoke for the past couple of months. Not that I'd join up on his say so though :D
