We're meant to shave on our day off?! News to me haha. I like not saving Saturday and Sunday lol. that said if I shave against the grain, I only need to shave 2 or 3 times a week lol.

Not long passed out of Phase 2 training, what a relief!

How long was your Phase 2? I've got 6 weeks left on course :D. I've got loads of other courses to do afterwards though, including driving licence and my trailers licence.

Desert is fine...its BLOODY hot though, so much respect for the guys out and about in it all day long!

Semi finals of our 5 aside football league/knockouts tonight, about 10/12 teams entered...ONE team was english...and we are in the semis and HOPEFULLY on to win the final muhahaha :D

Are you guys Navy/Army/Air Force? My phase 2 was about 13ish months long!!!

Have you got your postings through yet?

1 - You can't shot Susat as accurately (massive parallax error) when wearing your eye protection on ops as your eye needs to right on the lens (eye lashes touching it!) where as the ACOG has a better eye relief allowing you to get a full sight picture while wearing your eye protection.

2 - Better reticule for longer range engagements.

Thanks for that. I take it that ACOG will be replace SUSAT in full on a rolling programme ?

Also, can I ask what the mood is over there now that Labour have been voted out ?

Thirdly, I sent a shoebox out there recently with goodies in in. Not much but happy to help. I hear that Haribo and baby wipes are the currency in Afghanstan.

About 13 month. Not got any courses to do as far as I am aware, just NVQ stuff to finish.

Where are you based? Bit of advice for you, wait UNTIL you have got your SAC(T) up and are on level 5 higher THEN put in your AIP to go up to level 6 higher, I put mine in just before they announced the increase so I lost out on a pay increase and an AIP :( gutted!

Ouch! Yeah I have been told to wait until then. So will do! Thanks.

Up at Lossiemouth, totally chilling in comparison. Two hours of rock climbing just now, back to work. "O yeah sorry am late, am away home now" :p

Where are you based, normally! How is TG4 life out in the dessert? Are you attached to a TCW Squadron?

Army here, my Phase 2 is around 12 months long of actual course. I've got a PNCO course at the end to get my first stripe too, so looking forward to that. The way it's going, I'll have spent around 16 months at Blandford, too bloody long for the sort of place it is! lol.

As for posting, I've not even put mine in yet, but should be doing tomorrow hopefully! Hoping to end up in Germany, probably Elmpt, as we've got 2 Royal Signals units out there.

1. Only for front line units, the Iron sights for rear party troops is being phased out and they're getting the left-over SUSAT's (mandatory in theatre now - no iron sights)

2. It doesn't affect us one way or t'other but at least the Forces are now a priority for the new gov.

3. Haribo.......****ing HARIBO  If I ever see that stuff again I'll puke my ring up! (except Tangfastics as they're in for the win!)

Perhaps for the Army, not the case for us air force types. Will probably be many years before they start giving them to us, long after my time anyway.

It went a couple of weeks ago under the "It's a war zone not a holiday camp" philosophy held by the new brit boss (and originally put forward by his US boss) who has no idea what "morale" is the feckless idiot.

I'll misss you PH :( (even if it did give you the run's )

Ah shame, I was looking forward to trying the Pizza hut in Bastion. Never mind, who needs moral when you're in a war zone for 3 months at a time, away from your family, home life, everything.

Maybe it'll be back there when I deploy which could be Jan 2011, we'll see heh.

Stripe straight out of training? Would that make you SLIIIIIIME CORP?

;)

Took me so long because of APC Glasgow. Because I'd been in before they had to find my records before they could process my application. To do this they needed a request form. This from was sent to Glasgow on 3 occasions, and was lost on two of them. When they finally processed it, they came back and said they couldn't find my record, so they had to basically start my application again from scratch like I was a new recruit. That's what added probably over a year to the total time to get in, was rather annoying. But ah well, I'm here now, loving what I do. I should be in Germany in the next 6 months if all goes to plan :D.

Germany is brill for military postings :D hope you get it
