British Grand Prix 2016, Silverstone - Race 10/21

what does avoid seventh mean, hmmm, dont use it Rosberg...

Yesterday in case anyone missed it, he asked the team "high fuel... what does that mean". He often says the genuinely dumbest things on radio.

However in a race car going at 200mph, give him some slack, they all say dumb things. You have adrenaline pumping, he thought he was catching Hamilton then you have no power all of a sudden and stuck in gear, any driver would have a WTF moment there. It's definitely funny, for sure, but that is just a hyped up person being a bit panicked, it's not a sin nor makes him bad.

Now the default message is fine IMHO< something failed they helped him fix it, though if it's the same as in Hamilton's case he should be penalised for that. However I think the avoid a gear afterwards is clear coaching rather than help/fix message.

I'm confused about the radio rules - brundle said they were allowed to give instructions if there is a risk of imminent failure, but force india couldn't tell perez about his brakes last week?
Surely that's a very woolly phrase though what constitutes an 'imminent failure' 1 lap, 5 laps, 10 laps......failures aren't an exact science anyway it might last ages!

But we don't know what would happen if he continues to try and use 7th.

We saw that he was losing power in other gears in the replays.
Then he should not use 7th at all if it's going to cause imminent failure. He can't cry imminent failure and not do everything to avoid it (by not using 7th).

Loss of power and imminent failure is separate from what I understand.

It is, but he got the default chassis whatever it was message. That fixed it, after that they said something about 7th gear, Rosberg asked for clarification and they did clarify it. THat last part to me is coaching where the first part if the gearbox was about to fail should be allowed though I don't know if it is allowed or not.
