This parade lap is pointless. Instead of standing at the side waving to fans, they're talking to Button, and Hamilton is sulking in the corner so no one can see him anyway!

Not sure the Sprint stacks up for me.

The problem with it as things stand is like 413x says it devalues qualifying and tbh the outcome is a bit meaningless, if Hamilton gets the same start tomorrow as Max did today he might run away with the race in the same way.

I think the problem with F1 at the moment is like Mr Jack says after 3 laps the result is 90% finalised, that's why I think 3 sprint races would be better than a full length race.

Yeah f1 is over after 10 laps. Then have a undercut chance at pit. Then only hope is tyre deg.

F1 needs that overhaul

Would a few more laps with consequent extra tyre degredation have been better, making it borderlne whether to pit or not?

I’m not sure what the FIA and FOM were expecting from this Sprint Race format? The fastest car always end up at the front and a circuit like this is quite aero dependent so even running slightly lower downforce means you just lose time in the corners. If they’re going to pitch this format they need to do it in random grid order or reverse order or top ten in reverse championship order or something. Or make it happen after one practice session and allow a warmup on Saturday or before the race on Sunday.

I agree. Do you think they can make changes for next season? :D

Hear there are a few tweaks coming? Just a feeling I have... :D

I agree they should do something whacky with this format. Something that doesn't impact Sunday. A reverse grid would be amazing. Quali on Friday sets the scene for Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday.. Minor points but some crazy reverse grid.
Sunday normal format.

You can guarantee Saturday would be absolutely amazing to watch.

The biggest thing for me was seeing that Perez couldn't even get past Latifi for the whole race... So it doesn't give me much hope of much overtaking going on tomorrow.

Half ***ed it really, teams wouldn't be happy with anything else and the fans would go crazy until they got used to it.

Least in normal qualifying someone can get a lucky lap and someone else drop the ball, this just gave them 17 laps to sort of get the over taking out the way and sort out the true order early for the main race giving us even less to look forward too.

I could be wrong but other than Alonso and Perez everyone else looks to be in order and will likely stay there or there abouts.

It is not meant to be more thrilling than qualifying. Qualifying is still qualifying. This sprint race has replaced at least two hours of the free practice which everyone was moaning just gave teams too much information.

I've never seen this said. People has said testing at tracks used for racing has given teams too much information, few have complained about Friday practice. If anything cutting the sessions from 90mins to 60 mins has been worse.

Sainz carved his way through. I think Pérez wrecked his tyres and possibly picked up some damage which is why he couldn't make it back through

Can't see the point of this format, they have qualifying, a short race and then a longer one

Yeah it's not a bad format it's just that it's all a bit pointless when you already have qualifying to decide the starting order and a full length race, they're just doing it for the sake of doing it.

If they really want to provide a more entertaining spectacle with extra races for the sake of extra races, perhaps a better way would be to setup a secondary 'Sprint Championship', let Friday qualifying set the Sunday grid and reverse it for a Saturday sprint grid.

Let the teams decide how much they care about the sprint championship and you might actually see some of the mid table teams battling for it whilst the top teams see it as too risky to the car to fight from the back in a lesser race.

You'll get an entertaining* mixed up race but without worrying too much about affecting points awarded for the proper championship.

*well... as F1 goes

Can someone please tell me what the point of that was?

So now FP2 is worthless due to the far too restrictive parc ferme rules. The entire Qualifying session is effectively meaningless, as the cars will just move to the front in the sprint session based on race pace.

And now the race tomorrow is likely to be a procession as the cars are in race-pace order, with the exception of Sainz and Perez who had issues.

Whoop-de-*******-do.
