What is there not to like?
I really do not get what you could not have liked about that sprint race?!

I feel it undermines the more interesting normal qualifying session whilst not really adding much extra to the weekend. It dilutes rather than enhances the weekend.

The sprint itself was too short to allow for tactics to play out, and too long to be all action, and too unimportant in the wider frame of the weekend.

I don't hate it, but I don't think it's a step in the right direction for the sport.

Hmm, did you not see the qually on Friday? Less practice is a great way to increase the possibility of upsets, and qually was as interesting as it usually was (I enjoy qually!)
It give us 3 days of action, will make Friday and Sat tickets for the track more appealing also.
It may be slightly too short, but this is the first time it was tried, and given that its been superb! A little tweaking, and thought and it can be improved for sure.

I am a long time F1 fan, and have been for years. This format is refreshing, interesting and different. I will be keen to see if the other sprint format weekends are as great, but it's really promising :D

George Russell receives a 3 place grid penalty & a penalty point for causing a collision with Sainz :(

Yeah, I watched it as usual, and I much enjoyed it. For me, though, not deciding the actual grid makes it feel less important. I feel like they've taken the value of qualifying and smeered it over two days rather than adding more value.

Less practice does make things less predictable but I am worried about the impact it had on new drivers and drivers changing teams.

I already spend an awful lot of time watching F1 and the feeder series, especially with the ever increasing number of races. I don't feel like I want another evening taken up with it.

There's two more this year aren't there? I'll be watching them with interest.

I don't know why half even watch it with how bad they claim it is.
I wonder myself most of the times. I feel for myself that I watch more out of habit than genuine interest. I personally feel that I turn it on expecting it to be disappointing, and still feel let down at the end 8 out of 10 races. Why do I keep doing it? Dunno! probably still will though...:cry:

It seems like a lot of people just want more F1 over the race weekend (rather than just boring practice sessions). I liked the sprint (short) race format but it serves no real purpose as things stand other than to undo what happened in qualifying and spoil the race by giving everyone a glimpse of what's likely to happen.

I think I'm in agreement that if they are to stick with it then it needs to be a separate/secondary Championship (perhaps have reverse grid based on qualifying for extra excitement) but as things are now it just seems to be a pure money grab (more viewers/sponsorship money) whilst undermining the rest of the race weekend.

 What a joke. Really can't see an issue there, racing incident at absolute best. More reason not to try during these sprint races. Hopefully they'll get over it and next year we'll have a normal season.

Having thought about it a bit more this evening… if that had been the opening 17 laps on Sunday, it would have been great. Plenty of action up and down the field, the pitstop window about to open with blistering on the tyres, it would have opened up all sorts of possibilities for the rest of the race. And then it was over.

I don’t want to come across as a Negative-Nancy, and I am open to new ideas, but so far it just hasn’t clicked with me.

Well, that just seemed to show how much deadly boring tyre management goes on during a normal race. 17 laps on low fuel and the Mediums are done.
Exactly most of the race, if not all is spent driving around using up fuel and wearing out rubber at a pace well below what the car could do. It seems a bizarre state of affairs to me, are we racing or not.

What this weekend has shown is that there needs to be some sort of jeopardy for a session to be worth watching, which is kind of obvious.
The Friday sessions have become rather pointless from a spectator point of view.

Nah, he locked up all on his own whilst watching the incident infront, and it scuppered someone else's race. It's deserved. Sad, but inevitable really.

Mandatory 3 or even 4 pit stops in the main race would encourage team/drivers to drive more on the limit.

But at some point, driving at full tilt for more of the races would then perhaps cause issues with fuel tank capacity?

Track spectators or TV views?

People go to the track hear, see and experience the cars, and the atmosphere. So the two 90 min sessions gave them a good 3 hours of that, and cheap(er) tickets. It was probably the best session(s) to catch at the track as for qually and the race you need more feeds and info to appreciate what is unfolding.

For TV views the two 90 min sessions weren't as important/useful, but I always found them a nice was to slowly build up to the main action. They weren't compulsory watching, but I found them more interesting than what we have now. Particularly FP2, and then FP3 on Saturday.

That was brilliant!
We got to see a normal qually session on Friday and some fantastic racing on a Sat, before the full fat race tomorrow!

I really enjoyed it - Can't believe how many grumpy, miserable gits we have in here.

I enjoyed it from the point of seeing more racing, but I'd much rather qualifying just affect the main race, and the sprint race being a reverse grid

I'm interested to see if the need to stay of the kerbs for Max was a problem forming or just precautionary. Once that instruction came in, Lewis closed right up and probably could have got past him in a couple of laps.
