This is definitely the biggest problem facing Britain today, so well done to Cardiff Met :rolleyes:. Here are a selection of offensive words/phrases and their approved alternatives

Best man for the job = Best person for the job
Waitress = server
Fireman = firefighter
Housewife = consumer ( :confused: )
Mankind = humanity
Christian name = forename
Homosexual = same-sex
Polio victim = Polio survivor
Sportsmanship = fairness
Workmanlike = efficient.

It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. Of course the great wastage is in the verbs and adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well. It isn't only the synonyms; there are also the antonyms. After all, what justification is there for a word which is simply the opposite of some other word? A word contains its opposite in itself. Take "good", for instance. If you have a word like "good", what need is there for a word like "bad"? "Ungood" will do just as well — better, because it's an exact opposite, which the other is not. Or again, if you want a stronger version of "good", what sense is there in having a whole string of vague useless words like "excellent" and "splendid" and all the rest of them? "Plusgood" covers the meaning, or "doubleplusgood" if you want something stronger still. Of course we use those forms already. but in the final version of Newspeak there'll be nothing else. In the end the whole notion of goodness and badness will be covered by only six words — in reality, only one word. Don't you see the beauty of that, Winston?

I see nothing saying you can't just called everyone a ****ing **** so that's fine, I'd be lost without that.

These "safe spaces" the campuses keep putting up are not preparing them for life in the real world. No wonder the current generation are such flakes :/

What the **** is wrong with people?

Wait, am I allowed to say "people"? Wouldn't want to offend anyone who identifies as a rabbit (other furry creatures are available and are of equal importance)

How long before the word "human" is replaced with the word "huperson" I wonder?

they can try all they like, the students sure as hell aint gonna be adhering to that, well except the insane differently intellegent morons vocational acheivers

I would rather be called a waitress than a "server". The former is a job, the latter is a lower status. Housewife to be referred to as "consumer" again takes something that is active work and responsibility and puts a negative spin on it making it a passive sinkhole of resources. Christian name / forename - the latter makes more sense and is more intuitive. I don't see what the problem is with sportsmanship and workmanlike? Because they have "man" in the title? Also, "homosexual" is offensive now? I've been trying for years to make it not offensive.

I'm getting pretty sick of people trying to redefine my language. Wasn't it O'Brien in 1984 who commented about how if you can control language, you can control people?

I assume since they don't want to offend/discriminate against anyone, Cardiff University will now be admitting all applicants regardless of educational achievements/ability?

Non story don't give it any attention.

Why do you that when you can have a good OUTRAGE at how the COUNTRY IS GOING TO THE DOGS.

Or just leave students to do whatever daft stuff students have always done and don't take notice.

Calling housewives "consumers" conjures up images of fat women in trackies consuming crisps and chocolate all day watching Loose Women.

Yup - the quote in my OP is also from 1984.

It's Cardiff Met, so they probably do already ;) (just a joke - no need to get offended).

These stories are routine they come up every few months and that is the problem. It isn't just one loony student union they're all as nutty as this. This is also the breeding ground for the modern right on professionally offended politician. Make a stink about nothing at university, get a non-job defending the oppressed from some oppression they hadn't even noticed, get a job as some sort of special advisor, fight a hopeless commons seat, win a safe commons seat, force your inane views on the rest of your fellow man.

I'm convinced we get the MP's we deserve and that is a damning indictment on us.

Pathetic.

GTFO with this crapp. All this pc rubbish has come out of unis, they're just a cesspit for this kind of stuff it seems.

I don't want this stuff imported over here simply because look what it has done in America.
