The prices alone kill all temptation for me, it makes it extremely easy to skip this gen on nvidias side.
There's still so many people defending it though, a quick browse through pcmr on facebook and there's a ton of people who think its a worthwhile buy and the price is decent for what you get.

They must truly be smoking some concentrated high end weed, i can't see why else they would be thinking that way. Calling the 4080 12gb god tier , must be paid to say that.

Btw just because i intend to buy 1 doesn't mean i think the prices are ok - i don't. But for me gaining some fps in certain games can make them go from being unplayable to playable. VR gaming is my primary hobby in life and where i sink the most cash, i can justify it. Otherwise i'd just have £ sitting in the bank earning no interest. My other outgoings are low. I don't want to be the richest man in the graveyard. Nvidia are to$$ers though with these prices.

As a VR user I definitely agree with this. Even with a 3090 some games were unplayable at higher settings when using my vive pro 2. Looking forward to seeing what the 4090 can do!

I never had issues with this, i play mostly PCVR games and honestly they all ran perfectly smooth and at a high frame rate on a 12700k and 3090. No stutters of any sort, if anything upgrading to a better cpu fixed a lot of the low fps issues i was initially having.

Games like Half life alyx, blade and sorcery, blood trail, Pavlov, Medal of honour and Onward etc all run really smooth. Lone echo was by far one of the most immersive and smoothest games i've played to date, next to Alyx which ran flawlessly. Probably abit too flawless as it crapped me up a few times!

MSFS (this is by some margin the worst performing, and it's my fave game), Luke Ross's mods - Cyberpunk/GTA5 etc, American Truck Sim, Euro Truck Sim 2, Automobilista 2, Project Cars 2, Assetto Corsa, Onward, Fallout 4 VR, Skyrim VR...these are just the games I play regularly that struggle to reach 90 fps. Some as you say, like Onward, do run well anyway, but I like to crank up the resolution/supersampling, and Onward for example struggles then.

For some though it's like a cult and new GPUs are like a drug addiction where all rational thoughts disappear when they justify the new and shiny.

Thankfully I'm not part of that mentality. With cost of living, and the way the economy is heading, seeing the impending financial crisis unfolding, all my savings for luxury goods has been added to my emergency savings instead.

In fact if it wasn't for my Google news feed/thread on here I wouldn't have even known they were announcing anything!

It also helps I don't take part in competitive high fps multiplayer or VR gaming and I'm years behind the curve in other games. For example I'm currently playing Xcom 2 for the first time!

Oooh AC is another game i play quite often in VR, never tested what fps it runs out but its again super smooth. Took some time to get use to though, motion sickness was quite bad with this one lol.

I like how I genuinely believe there will be a price reduction within 60 days as they won’t all sell this time. I’m going to wait until 4090 to a under £1400 then buy one.

That only happens if they have excess inventory they can't move. I don't see it happening unless AMD goes incredibly aggressive with pricing and has enough inventory to satisfy all orders, which isn't likely.

I just don’t think the vast numbers of people with spare cash are still around now we have such massive price increases on more important things.

I think they will sell fine in the US, but selling at these prices in Europe which is struggling much more with cost of living could be a challenge.

I'm in the US and have the money, but Nvidia's presentation looked like a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

I'll wait for reviews, but it doesn't look like this hardware has enough of a (real) uplift.
