Why has the vast majority voted to skip this round?
I currently have a 2080ti and decided to skip the 3000 series, due to them being impossible to get, with a view to upgrading to a 4080. I game in 4k.

Because they don't want the 4xxx series cards?

Maybe they have 3xxx series and don't see the point, or the prices are too much

NVIDIA's horrible approach to customer with their 4080 pricing and spec. 4080 16GB being really more of a 4070 (number of CUDA cores, RAM bus width etc.) and 4080 12GB being really more of a 4060 - but greed won, pricing went up, renaming both to 4080 just to justify the pricing, and there you go, people decided to not play this game. That said, to me the only worth its price for real enthusiasts is RTX 4090 (still pondering getting it), but it's a horrible investment if one isn't making money using GPU, as it will surely lose value rapidly. For the time being I just ordered cheap 3080Ti (some shops have it for below £800, brand new), to replace my faulty RX 6800XT (RMA and to be sold I reckon). I will definitely not touch these overpriced 4080s. And I am still very curious to see what AMD will present next month and for how much.

The ridiculous pricing probably.

Nvidia pretty said they are going to stack the pricing of the new 4xxx cards on top of the MSRP of the 3000 cards MSRP from two years ago instead of replacing them.

Also there's the horrible calling the 4060/4070 a 4080 12GB scam, and pricing it at $900.

4080 wont release on the 12th

just the 4090

Nvidia wants to sell the big stuff 1st, i thinking 2 months after 4090 so 4080 is around December 2022 release??
It's reported to be planned for Nov release, same as AMD RDNA 3. That's likely where this generation fight will happen, between these 2, in these price brackets. I don't believe AMD will even try to chase 4090 with the pricing at least, but who knows.

Because I already have a 3090FE and the only decent upgrade would be the 4090, but Nvidia have decided to screw us all this time around.

Was looking forward to the new cards, have the money in the bank, and even received a tax rebate that would cover the cost of one but due to the pricing, as well as the cost of electricity at present, I’ve decided that I’d rather keep the money in the bank for now.

It’s a shame but that’s the way it is right now.

I’m keeping an eye on RDNA3 just in case they surprise us all but I’m probably going to sit out this round completely.

The 4080's at current pricing though are dead in the water and for the weak specs on offer I personally wouldn't pay anymore than £800 for the 16gb version let alone the 12.

My thinking as well. 4080 are silly priced and weak (considering), 4090 is kiiiinda ok (could be £200 less really), but power-hog as well and I play in UW 1440p 175Hz, hence it seems to be an overkill for that. I have money but feels stupid to spend it this time, especially with what NVIDIA is doing and how they treat customers (not that it's new but they do behave more and more like Apple). AMD might surprise us indeed, we'll see. I'd sit on 6800XT but it just is misbehaving badly for a month, and I had enough of that hence just got 3080Ti cheaply and can easily wait for 5k series on that, if needs be.

4090 pricing is NOT ok, it's ridiculous.
