They probably didn't want anyone singeing their eyebrows mate
The only thing i can think of is Nvidia didn't think the cooler was capable of cooling anymore than 450w so hard locked it , i was surprised it was hard locked tbh . The AIB 3090Ti can run with unlocked PL bios and normally can drink 550-650w depending on what its doing but do get hot unless watercooled . They very likely had no choice but to increase the size of the 4090 FE cooler to cope with 600w

Did Nvidia confirm if locked to 450W yet? Seems a shame to WC a locked down card. Couldn't adjust the power limited on 3090TI FE at all etc.

I do it for quietness and coolness. I did it for my 3090. I didnt get hardly anything extra max boost speed but I got a card which maxxed out at 40C and stayed at a higher constant boost (from memory every so many degrees extra heat dropped the boost down), I presume the 4090 will be the same.

Plus once you take the shroud off the 4090, the card is quite small so much easier to fit in my case. :)

Just seen a google advert for OCUK.
The asus strix 4090 oc is now £2,299 :(
Even basic Zotac Trinity is now 1799. Trinity OC is 1899 - hope you can extend PL to 600W on OC one(its vague but OC version has 4x8pin adapter, while standard does 3x8pin)
I am only interested in Zotac or FE - only ones allowing change of cooler for watercooling, and if Zotac is has to be Trinity OC as its should be a reference PCB

TuF is above 2000...

Should have way more info on the 11th.

Strix price pushing me towards an FE. It's a lovely looking design anyway. Will see what the MSI Suprim X is priced at as that was a really nice 3090.
