Thats great. But as I said, is all essentially relative. Even 3080 money for a lot of people with lower budgets, they'd be shocked by.

I think the 4090 price, is what it is. Its £100 more than the last flagship. Neither here nor there. I TOTALLY get people throwing their toys out of the pram with the 4080/4070, but the flagship has always been the flagship which is an overpriced extremely powerful card which very few people will constantly utilise to its full potential.

Your point is valid but for the Uk its £300 more than the last flagship but its still the best buy out of the lot.

4090 is £289 more than the 3090 was, that £20 makes a world of difference!

Looking forward to FE reviews. The 3090ti FE was very loud with it's 450W load. Nvidia made seemingly big upgrades to the cooler, though I still want to see it's noise level before considering one. Don't want to be stuck with a loud card for 2+ years!

It's really very simple, allow me to explain...

In days gone by the flagship was there as an independent halo product which many people scoffed at but on the whole weren't too bothered about because there were much better price/perf alternatives. Now the flagship product is being used to anchor the price points on the other tiers it is not independent and its actually not the flagship very often. The 4090 is really a replacement for the 3080 with more RAM you peer between the smoke and mirrors and see the 4090 is a cut down 102 die.... like the 3080 was.

Instead of a Titan class Nvidia invented a new tier and shoved the prices up, segmented the SKUs and in the case of the Ampere prioritised production of the price inflated SKUs so you could no longer buy the price/perf option.

Hopefully that covers it TLDR the flagship is used now to screw over the lower tiers and offer less value.

...but be cautious about the shop claims of it being able to draw 600W, there is conflicting information on this. It maybe capable but that doesn't mean the bios will allow it or you will be able to flash the bios to allow it the information is very nebulous right now.
the board is designed to draw 600W, but VBIOS limits it to 450W.

You can pull 600W when the card is watercooled.

I'm still a bit concerned about the cards fitting in my case, o11 evo.

1) Mount it normally; I think the cable is too stiff to be able to connect to the GPU and bend before the glass.
2) Attempt to mount it upright, only one card would do this, and I think it's the FE and even then it might not work.
3) Verticallty mount it, with the cards being wide it's going to be pretty close to the glass side panel so I'm not sure if the temps are going to suck.

I have the o11d, if you have a corsair psu you could try this cable as it looks to be a bit more flexible than the one that comes with the FE.

Hey mate, thank you so much for that. I'll be honest I blindly ordered that without even looking at it properly and you're right that thing looks a lot more flexible than the the one that comes with the FE! Sweet, I don't need to worry now, thanks mate :D

according to Igor's Lab (and if I read it correctly) the VF curve reportedly tops out at 450W, and whilst you can put more power in (assuming you can cool it of course) you won't see more frequency. I guess he is getting that from AIBs....
food for thought especially if Nvidia told AIBs to design it for 600W, probably one of the reasons EVGA got annoyed at them if true I've no way to verify any of this

For anyone looking at either the FE or Zotac extreme, this guy shows the 4090 FE against the 3090/TI FE then shows sizes between the 4090FE and Zotac which is pretty cool

Im going full water block again so never bothers me.

Unsurprisingly that Corsair 600W PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR power cable has now sold out and I expect that all of us who ordered last night have now had shipment confirmation.
