This is a strong possibility, we often run in new poles to support FTTP infrastructure.I'm seeing a lot of roadwork plans in my area pop up on bidb.uk, where Openreach are replacing almost a dozen (so far planned) poles in my town over the next few months. At least 2 of them are providing poles rather than being worded to replace too.
Also 2 other planned works have the below works description which I'm unsure if it has any relevance or meaning? I'm curious if this is preliminary work before FTTP is planned for the town? Or something else entirely? Last I saw our town is planned for between Apr 2021-24...
I'm not too fussed if they aren't, as we have MS3 (altnet fibre) laying right now in my area, plus we have VM Gig1 which I'm on currently. But I am curious whether Openreach are suddenly going to deploy all over town their own FTTP or not next year potentially.
Extremely rare for OR to request that an end user runs in their own duct, a permission to work would be obtained and then work carried out. It is common however for the EU to offer themselves, we would then work in conjunction.Openreach are actually quite good at digging up to clear it. I think they'd be well within their rights to request that you at least dig the duct up yourself if it's on your property.
Ducts don't tend to collapse by themselves though, if it's the final bit of pipe leading into your house under your garden then there's not really many opportunities for it to get damaged.
18 years would also raise potential for armoured cable and no duct. Largely dependant on area, strong possibility duct would be in place though. If it's underground and was only installed 18 years ago then it will be ducted
Hi @RSR - finally had time to have a look at this, and thought I'd report back. All sorted - a simple ifconfig told the story. When I did an ifconfig to compare all the interfaces, I noticed the physical interface (igb0) was still at 1500MTU.Interesting, as a test what does it show if you shell / ssh to it and run a ifconfig against the PPPoE and WAN interface?
Id also test it with IPv6 disabled.
Nice one!Hi @RSR - finally had time to have a look at this, and thought I'd report back. All sorted - a simple ifconfig told the story. When I did an ifconfig to compare all the interfaces, I noticed the physical interface (igb0) was still at 1500MTU.
For some reason, on a physical appliance when you set up OPNSense with a PPPoE connection, in the assignments page it leaves the Physical interface unassigned/hanging (e.g. green at the bottom). The WAN is linked to PPPoE and Igb0. What I had to do is create a new nonsense assignment for the igb0 interface (I called it dummy), not configure it at all - except set the MTU to 1508. Interfaces then as per the link. Of course then the physical port is at 1508, and all springs into life. I think something must have changed with the way OPNSense configures the interfaces with PPPoE.
Thanks for your help

I can assure you that not everywhere is getting FTTP. Far from it. My house isn’t even on the plans up to 2025!Is bidb.uk the only way to see FTTP plans? Openreach say they're "planning" it but it feels like they say that about every postcode.
I saw 4 openreach vans down our way feeding cables through access points in the road (I don't know jargon) and wondered if that was fttp related or some other maintenance.
I'd love to get off this 60mb.
We don't put every postcode under planning, if it states planning then it's definitely being worked on in some aspect. If you happen to notice a lot of OR tonner vans knocking about, chances are things are getting under way.Is bidb.uk the only way to see FTTP plans? I would take public plans with a pinch of salt, there is a lot of movement in terms of dates and rollouts on a weekly basis.I can assure you that not everywhere is getting FTTP. Far from it. My house isn’t even on the plans up to 2025!

They were only there for a day. They were spread down the estate shouting at eachother feeding things through under the road (no footpaths). In hindsight probably too quick to be anything major. We don't put every postcode under planning, if it states planning then it's definitely being worked on in some aspect. Sounds as if they were doing a copper cable change over or pulling through fibre. How do you know what the timeline is? I'd love to check.

https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/where-when-building-ultrafast-full-fibre-broadband will tell you if it's in scope and when for. My area is like a giant donut around me at the moment. How do you know what the timeline is? I'd love to check.
