BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Took a good few calls but finally had a half decent renewal offer which I took which was FF 500 for £34.99 a month not amazing but not bad

I'd been out of contract for few years and was paying £53 for 50 and free weekend calls (phone hasn't been plugged in for years lol)

Aren’t BT offering 500Mb for £30.99pm right now to new customers? Needs more haggling I say :D

Depends on the area.

they first offered me (twice) something like £46 a month for 500

which I find odd as my contract/headline I received for the 34.99 deal - terms states 39.99 with 5 a month discount down to £34.99 - so why 46 ?!

Thought my switchover from BT to Aquiss had been ballsed up, was supposed to start on the 1st June.......logged on to start work this morning and saw I had no connectivity.

Updated pppoe login on the router and all done. Speeds look a little better, but much of a muchness, 900/105, and much cheaper. Job done.

My install to BT fibre was a mess.

Done all the inside install and then after an hour or so told me he had a problem, the builders had concreted in the ducting and he couldn't clear it. A team would have to come out to clear it through but I could still use my current set up until then. The next morning we woke up to no internet. After a mass of calls they confirmed the Open reach guy had disconnected us and we couldn't be reconnected. We would have to wait for the install to be completed. A few days later a lady turns up to look at the concreted ducting. Removes a few hand fulls of stones from around it, removes a bung that was used to block the hole and stop stones falling down and completed the install in about 5 minutes.

Anyway all up and running now.

I have my install on Friday. Fingers crossed it goes to plan. My only concern is that I live in an old house and it's 450 mm thick solid sandstone.

So, the install went perfectly, no issues with the wall thickness whatsoever. ONT placed where I wanted. My only issue, which Aquiss are sorting once Openreach are back in the office on Monday, is that Openreacch had set me to a 300 Mbps profile instead of 1000 Mbps. I emailed Aquiss at 8pm last night and received a message back within 30 mins. Top notch service so far.
Here's my new Aquiss BQM versus my concurrent Virgin BQM, which is due to end on 8 July thankfully!

Looking good. It is definitely nicer than VM. Even on FTTC with about 10ms pings I always found general web browsing to be quicker than any VM connection.

Noticed similar myself moving from VM to my Toob connection:

DOCSIS just sucks in comparison.

Well, spoke too soon.....noticed Starling saying I had a big BT DD about to go out.....logged in and lo and behold, BT are trying to charge me for July, useless ****s.

This is despite them sending me this shortly after ordering Aquiss....

Hello, BT here. We're sorry to hear you want to leave us. Just so you know, there's GBP1.47 to pay on your account for leaving BT. If you'd like to talk to us about this, you can call us on 0800 587 7221. If we don't hear from you by 2pm on 26-May-2023, your move will go ahead as planned. Thanks.
Cancelled the DD and will no doubt have to deal with the bellends next week when I'm back from holiday. *****.

Spoken to BT today.

Text chat guys says that the switchover didn't happen 'fully', that there's been a mistake and I should call cancellations to sort it out.

Called cancellations, and the guy tried to sell me a load of **** before saying he was cancelling the broadband, and then passed me to billing department.

Billing department tell me that the account is still active because I haven't returned the hardware yet, and that I will continue to pay for it until the hardware is returned, then I will get a refund, if any is due!

Utter tosspots. Service ended on 31st May and I have 60 days to return the hardware, I have it here in writing.

Still on the text chat line with 'Shyani' who thankfully tells me they have spoken with their manager, opened a complaint, and got it sorted.....proper bill on the 25th July.

Although, plot twist, when I saw the upcoming DD notification from Starling I immediately cancelled it, so probably going to bounce, which will result in more fun and games.

FFS. After learning last week that we won't be getting FTTP probably until 2030 at the earliest, I get an email from TT saying my 65/20 broadband and phone package is going up to £65/m...

FML.

I'm about to go through this.

I moved from BT to Aquiss on the 1st June and am yet to receive my refund from my last BT bill. I called BT and asked about it and they said it wasn't fully cancelled their end and transferred me to "somebody who could help". I waited on hold for 15 minutes and then hung up because I was in the middle of something and didn't have the time to waste so I'll be calling them back this week to sort it.

So far Aquiss have been good, haven't noticed any difference using the internet until a couple of days ago when it dropped completely. My router was showing all the correct lights but I had no internet at all. Even rebooting the router didn't fix it. I ended up switching off my ONT and router at the wall, waiting 10 mins and switching them back on again. This worked and I got my internet back, but I hope it doesn't happen again. It never happened when I was with BT :(

Aquiss got back to me and confirmed that the switchover has all gone correctly and BT have screwed up their end.

They also told me they've had other customer who have recently switched have exactly the same problem.

The people on the phone at BT were useless, but the guy on text chat was really good, when I got back to him and said the people he told me to phone hadn't fixed the problem he immediately raised a complaint and escalated the issue because he could see there had been a mistake on their part.

I will wait and see what happens, I've cancelled my DD so they shouldn't get any money until it's settled.

My issue now is that Openreach hadn't let ISPs know that there is a speed restriction in my area of 330mbps on FTTP products. Whilst ISPs are advertising full speed products and Openreach will allow ordering, they limit the speed. I spoke to Martin at Aquiss for quite a bit this morning and he could only apologise. They will be doing regular checks with Openreach to let me know if and when the full 1000 Mbps product is available.

Has this happened with anyone? I'm wondering whether it's until the full build is complete in my area. I've been one of the first to have the pole equipment installed and FTTP activated.
