BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Heh, I didnt even realise they have an unlimited package, can't see why they haven't just suggested I upgrade to that rather than QQ'ing about my usage... Guess I will do that. Thanks for the help.

Having Infinity installed end of next week.

How good is their BT Home Hub router, what can I replace it with that's better.

Can't fault it so far :) So deffo worth a try at least mate, save the pounds for something else. It comes with a USB connection for network storage (external H/D) and gigabit connection as well. WiFi signal has also been good.

You're both pretty phallus like, you for posting in a thread you have no interest in and him for responding. Run along now

My MAC code is on the way from Sky now that BT can finally offer my street Infinity. First time I will have had top draw internet since ISDN. How are people finding their Infinity pings - better or worse than adsl?

Can't wait to see how long and drawn out both companies can make thus change over ;)

@d_brennen hi matey, I found my ping was better in that it was slightly lower and appears to be more stable (in game) when I changed to Infinity. On a whole I can't fault it to date and the only hassle I've had (read through this thread) was the the initial mixup on the installation date, which to be fair to BT they did resolve to my satisfaction albeit through the CEO dept :D Good luck anyhow mate :)

I'm on unlimited Infinity (currently Total Unlimited) from this Friday, but I am not looking forward to the BT router. I understand it uses a seperate modem then a cable router, can I replace it with any cable router? And what is everyone using? There will be up to 7 computers connected at any one time, sometimes a couple more.

My Line Attenuation is 65, does anyone know if BT installs FTTC this far out? Just wondering as my exchange was on the recent list that was published :D

The Homehub is fine unless you plan on using wifi..:p

Any cable modem will work.

MAC code in hand just now \o/ but the NI BT line is closed, there is an offer for NI residents that you can only get by phoning up for some reason :/ 'bout time, Sky can kiss my behind

d_brennen , if you ring (no idea what the offer is) make sure you ask about paying for line rental for the year in advance (if you can afford it that is) as they take the payment as a one of credit card charge but it's worth an extra £10 per month saving. From what I've been told this option only (I took it) appears when you signup online. Hope this helps mate.

So you pay for line rental upfront and save about £10 a month, £120 in the year?

BT Price rises:

We're making some changes to the prices of our products and services from 3 December 2011. We're putting up line rental by 70p as well as changing the cost of some of our calls and broadband prices.

We know no one likes it when prices go up. That's why we've kept these rises as low as we can. You can rest assured that no other prices are increasing by more than 5% and more than half of the prices of our products and services won't change at all. What's more, the cost of line rental, calls to UK landlines and the Unlimited Anytime Plan won't rise again until 2013.
