BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

BT Price rises:

We're making some changes to the prices of our products and services from 3 December 2011. We're putting up line rental by 70p as well as changing the cost of some of our calls and broadband prices.

We know no one likes it when prices go up. That's why we've kept these rises as low as we can. You can rest assured that no other prices are increasing by more than 5% and more than half of the prices of our products and services won't change at all. What's more, the cost of line rental, calls to UK landlines and the Unlimited Anytime Plan won't rise again until 2013.

Broadband Pricing

Broadband Option 2 £21.50 £22.50

Merry Christmas from BT

Infinity ordered! Only works out £4 odd more than Sky were relieving me of. Went with the 40GB capped package with phone and unlimited national calls for herself. If I regularly hit the limit I can just upgrade to the unlimited package for just over a fiver more.

Estimated speeds 39.5mbps down, 9 up. Will be a very happy bunny if anywhere near this lol

wow, i've had a right run around with talktalk and this fibre service!
there was a database error with BT which has now changed to say that my area is enabled. Every isp can now offer me fibre according to their checkers, however we are stuck on a talktalk contract- and they can't offer us the fttc upgrade until the exchange has gone llu! which is now Feb next year.

d_brennen in all honesty you will be doing well if you get those speeds but it will be a massive improvement over what you have now thats for sure. As for unlimited thats what I'm on, and very glad to be :D I think you might just upgrade pretty quickly with the extra speeds ;) Hope it goes well for you.

Thanks for the advice mate. IDK if I'll use anywhere near 40GB as I work too hard lol, but Sky is just rubbish for me. Sometimes I cannot even connect to servers. I wouldn't resent paying a bit more if I do though :)

My usual pings to CSS servers I use most are 55-70ms (as shown by the server browser), sometimes as low as 35 in the dead of night/early AM. Hope I can shave a few ms off too

My activation date is the 2nd of November, will post impressions when it's all bedded in

My pings dropped a bit matey but more importantly they stayed stable :) Oh and what ever you do ... and I mean this .... DON'T miss that install date ! :D

Had ours installed last week and first impressions are very good - seeing 37.5 down and a shade over 8 up.

Junked the HomeHub though, kept dropping wireless when pushed hard, put a TP-LINK cable router in and it's working nicely.

Wireless is so slow and keeps dropping for me.

Anyone recommend a better router that isn't too expensive? And how do you set it up? just plug it in instead of the homehub?

This is the one I've got: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-024-TP&groupid=46&catid=1596&subcat=

The homehub could manage around 24Mbps upstairs, this allows each computer in the house to max out the connection.

Setup is fairly straightforward, plug the VDSL modem into the WAN port, it detects PPPoE then you just need the username which is [email protected]

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-025-TP&groupid=46&catid=1596&subcat=1934 is a bit cheaper, but no idea what the wireless performance is like.

Thanks will look into it:)

BT Infinity is meant to be getting installed here now but haven't heard anything about it. I live in Hereford, when it arrives i'm defiantly switching.

LOL BT phoned me today, my activation date won't be the 2nd November after all, there's some kind of problem with Sky and getting access to change the line over or some such (was busy and can't speak Indianglish), will have to phone tomorrow and find out whats what  why did I think it would be easy?

Bt have started to implement the 17a Profile now, people on longer lines are starting to see great increases in their download speed.

Also the wholesale checker is showing increased upload estimates.

Oo yes, I now get told:

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 27.6Mbps and upstream line speed of 11.5Mbps.

Previously it was

Just looking through some of our customer sites which have FTTC and the best estimate upload figure I've seen from the BTW checker is 14.1Mbps.

I'll have to recheck the stats on my unlocked modem over the weekend.
