The first part is nonsense.
Based on what assumption?
The first part is nonsense.
Heh, you wish.
The technical trial doesn't finish until the end of March, at which point people on the trial pay up or go back to 40mbit. In effect: there's no way BT retail to launch it to their customers at large any time before then, since it's still in a trial period.
The engineer who told you 80/20 "would be available soon" was more than likely giving out the slightly delayed information that *technically* 80/20 is available "soon"... or, already is, to a wide audience, as of a few weeks ago.
Based on what assumption?
He's entirely correct. All this "better functionality" is simply BT lies and smokescreens to cover the fact the early modems are failing at an alarming rate.
I was referring to the first day of spring. Not the 80/20 start date![]()
Perhaps BT should have got Draytek or someone else to come up with something, nothing too fancy, just more reliable, & not locked down..
It was probably tendered out to the cheapest manufacturer. It wouldn't surprise me if it costs 50p to make each unit.

My CAB is finally showing as Phase 9b. Anyone know what sort of time frame I'm looking at for it getting done?
How do you find out this information? My cab has been whirling away since December and still can't order.
Here is a rollout list of exchanges here.
Dates may move due to weather, etc.

Nice, BT guys fiddling with a box down the end of the road, stopped and asked them and they've basically just finished hooking up fibre so its all done but they have no idea when I'll be able to order as cabinet being done and actually being enabled/orderable is very different.
It's finally done though and can't be too far away.
Anyone know the Bethere/Sky rumours on fibre? I had hoped to go with Bt several months ago(as our exchange was done SO long ago now), go with BT for 18 months then hope to go back to Be or, whoever is doing cheaper/non Bt service by then.
Though Sky might end up noticeably cheaper for fibre if you have their whole package, Be I'm not sure will end up any cheaper than Bt anyway.
Hmm, lastly, anyone know the situation with BT and moving, if you sign up to an 18 month contract for 40mb and move, do they expect you to pay out the contract, or transfer to the new place, will they let you off if you move somewhere that doesn't have 40mb available? THere's a fairly good chance we'll move within the next year now.
