BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Our Infinity has slowed a bit lately - only getting around 20-30Mbps on speedtest and can only seem to get files at a maximum of around 1.5/1.6Mbps whereas before it would max the line at around 4.4/4.5Mbps!

Here's my tracert -

Will be interested to know what sort of speeds we'll see when 80/20 is rolled out here as our cab is only about ~100m along the road!

Hi

Edinburgh Leith Exchange has been finally marked for 2012 upgrade to FTTC but I'm kind of worried as the flats I'm in have their Distribution Points inside each flat block rather than a Cabinet at the road side (Which is empty), but there a main BT road conduit running right next to the flat block I'm in.

Another reason I'm worried is that our exchange is about 1300-1400 meters from the flats via what I think is the main truck conduit via the streets I know going back to the exchange which should see me with about a 20mb connection on ADSL2.

I get currently get just under 7 Mbps with:
Line Attenuation at DS 32.8 dB/ US 18.5 dB
Noise Margins at DS 13.6 dB/ US 23.0 dB
Which to me is horrific for a property that was build only in the last 5-7 years.

No VM cable either, stops about 25 meters from my flat block :( Worst is that there is more flat blocks going up to the back and right of where my flat is.

Well to compound things, the flats are factored, original builders went bust and the flat is done via letting agency that I believe has one owner for a whack of the the flats in the complex (Asia, Arab name).

I think I might end up moving as the current ADSL2 speeds don't leave me with much hope of VDSL or even a good connection.

From the talktalk checker,

Your estimated download speed is 64.6 Meg
Upload speed is 20 Meg

Synced at 78/22.

Ah, OK, it wont show me my estimated line speed, keeps saying there is a problem with their superfast fiber optic checker - thought it may only work for existing TT customers :S

Another graph, 17a profile by the looks of it, also looks pretty accurate.

Bring on vectoring :)

BT has always based their packages of usage and not speed though, although I can see a couple of quid rise per month and a new contract needed for the 80/20 service.

From the pricing information available at the same site it looks like the annual rental will be increasing by £30.60+Vat. I've no idea how that will translate to ISP pricing, but free upgrades look unlikely.

What does this pricing mean? The base prices on the BT site will increase by the above amount?
