BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Wouldn't like to see what Zen and alike are going to be charging for the 80 uplift, get ready bend over I'd say..

I thought the government was trying to push for super fast broadband in all homes, at this rate it's gonna cost 40-50 per month just for unlimited broadband and calls if you want the top speed.

Hours?? Seriously what are you downloading, can you really tell the difference between a 15gig rip and a 30gig full Bluray?

I doubt there are many games that take over an hour considering you can do 16gig an hour no problem.

Well after my IP profile and download speed drop and ping increase I asked BT for my line to be reset. I was told that:

Thanks for your email. I'm afraid we don't have the facility to reset the DLM on FTTC lines the same way we do on ADSL so I can't complete your request. You may have read around the forums that sometimes it can take up to a month for the DLM to determine whether a line is stable enough to lower the SNR again so that everything refreshes back to it's original level. As it stands, your sync speed is 40Mb so all that remains is for the line to remain completely stable and the IP Profile will recalculate automatically. Keep an eye on it for a while longer and it should change itself.

I had to turn the PC off today (:O) and also the power to the modem.

Upon reboot my profile is back to normal, ping lowered and upload increased :

Coincidence ?

Im happy either way :D

That's the increase in the cost from Openreach to the ISPs. The ISPs will be able to charge whatever they like (or think they can get away with) for 80/20.

yeah true well i think it will be £31 p/m as the 100meg is £35 and 40meg is £25 ..so sounds about right to me ?

BT won't charge much extra IMO, but these other ISPs will for sure. They will get away with it too as people are still in their contracts and will want 80mbit :).

I'm currently getting 7.5mb UL & 37mb DL, with the impending 80/20 upgrade coming soon, will those on the 40/10 package see any benefits like the UL /DL increasing to the full 40/10 as a result, or is it affected by the distance from the cab?

a) not sure if I would want to stick with it for the extra cost
b) not sure if it's worth the hassle for the trial period (service may be up and down, I work from home sometimes)
c) GF may kill me.
