BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I am slightly dissapointed

My upgrade has not gone well, I'm sync'd at 78,000 according to the BT speedtester but am getting the same 4.4 / 4.5 as before, upload is 17MBps and is fine, it's like the download speed is stuck or something!

Infinity is now enabled in my area, tried calling today but seems all the engineers are busy due to loads of people rushing to get Infinity. BT says I need to wait for about a week until they can get an appointment for it to be installed...

Just done a speed test after upgrading to 80/20 last week.

Not bad, although I'm slightly disappointed, it's now syncing at 70763 down and 20000 up. In October when I got FTTC the maximum downstream was 79088, so I'm guessing a lot of people nearby have signed up. Hopefully we'll get the 30a profile soon, although I'm guessing that’s over a year away.

Pretty much exactly the same thing happened to me. Engineers equipment was around 82-85mbps when it was installed. By the time I got round to unlocking my modem (4 months) it was down to 79mbit, would only sync at 70mbit. Now my SNR is much more unstable and my attainable has dropped to 75mbit, synced at 65mbit.

Upload is still happily over 20mbit though so that's nice.

Some progress in the last few days for me: Normally goes to a server located in Scotland but the last few days it has gone down south to London. Does that change frequently?

Good luck with that :P

My experience of BT is that Infinity has been first class, their engineer was top notch but their CS is abysmal. I lost track of the times i was "promised" to be called back (and wasn't) when trying to get my install sorted out after BT royally *****d it up

Interested to hear the outcome though as im getting 38.37 / 9.05 on the 40/10 profile and their estimate for Infinity 2 is actually slower :P

Well, I get home from work and still no upgrade. I called again to be told that my cab is getting an upgrade this Friday, its only been installed since March!

They will call me on Friday to discuss.... yeah right...

Just checked my order and notice this
"Your appointment is no longer required, as our engineer can connect your line without requiring access to your premises. The engineer will work to connect your line at the exchange."

Reading online it seems to be an error in a lot of cases, did anyone else have it? Might give them a ring anyway.

I had this, I phoned them and told them that I was in a new build and had NOTHING in my house, they were like, oh, ill make sure he comes to the house. It never changed online, but he turned up luckily.

BT Infinity in my area birmingham erdington but when i go to order as i can not get it any ideas pleasse says spped i would get it 9 to 15mps

Anyone got any idea when it will come to Trentham? :/

Stuck with 2mb/s speeds on the NEWEST ESTATE, with Blurton 100 meters away and already having fibre optic, its simply a joke.

Infinity would be nice, however we were promised it in 2010, but instead I can still only get talktalk. BT speeds were 240kb/s when we had BT openworld, and we had 9 engineers come out over a period of 6 months, each not knowing about the previous engineers work/findings, and after spending 48 hours, yes 48 HOURS, on the phone over the 3 months..... we switched to Talktalk.

The only thing that would make me move from my 2mb/s internet would be guarenteed speeds of 5 to 10x that.

So, anyone else in Trentham/S-o-T, and have any idea of when it may/may not arrive? BT are often so full of Sh1*

well our 80 mb upgrade went through last night, the upload speed has gone up but download has still been slow since unlocking the bt modem last week. i may look at contacting bt mods on the infinity forums tomorrow if its still poor. line was running 37mb since jan and is only ~250m to cab

I'm currently 6 months into my BT phone, TV and broadband package, and now I can get BT infinity!!! It says I can get 56mb on the speed checker... but I cannot fathom how to upgrade my broadband and keep my existing TV and phone deals.

How on earth can you upgrade to BT Infinity?

There isn't a RFS (Ready For Service) target date listed for Trentham, so no before 2013 at the earliest. The current FTTC role out plans go through to December 2012 but they'll probably slip. Hence if Trentham does get added to the role-out plans, could be the 2nd half of 2013 at best...

Getting the exact same thing at the moment - upload has hit 15Mb/s so it's been changed but the download wasn't hitting above 31Mb/s which was the same as we got before :(
