HA :)..

SNMP is a massive target for bots, lots of ISP routers ship with it open and with the default access passwords. A quick Google will show you many vulnerabilities its had over the years too.

I know that, but if I cause them no reason to launch an attack on me it is very unlikely to randomly happen.

Are you kidding? Botnets happily scan entire subnets, and would do so especially on BT's subnets if they knew they could do something interesting (like crash your router) using SNMP (*if* a vulnerability exists)

I was going to mention botnets, but what's the point?

The amount of failed root logins I had on my VPS with default ports (fairly secure password) was unreal..

Well it ain't happened yet. I'll put security in place if and when something happens.

Probably not the best idea using SpeedTest.net for anything accurate. Try using something like a news group download.

When I use SpeedTest it can be all over the place and differ quite a bit depending on what server your on

That has nothing to do with the HH3. Like I have said above, mine has been flawless since December. Speeds vary because of the server your using and not your router. Try resetting the HH3 to see if it picks up the new speeds as many people had to reset their HH3 or third party routers for the upgrade to kick in.

If I reset my HH3 (with the reset pin) my speeds jump back up? Note - I'm not resetting the modem. Also, in the unlikely event that my exchange is THAT congested, dropping down to 2Mb/s (which it has done in the past) is unacceptable.

Wait till someone else comes a long I really can't be chewed to sit here and explain to you at all.

I'm not really fussed though to be quite honest with you. It works for me so I'm happy. Have friends who have protected their PC's and network to hell and back and still found themselves with viruses on their machines.

Why is there so much HH3 hate? It's fine. Bloody damn good router for almost free.

I had no end of trouble with mine, but that may have been down to faulty hardware/incompatibility between devices. My Logitech Squeezebox radios (3 of them) wouldn't hold a connection to it, and only resetting the hub would cure it.

I wanted 5GHz anyway so bought an AirPort Extreme and the HH3 has lived in a box ever since. I don't really have an opinion on it either way, it just didn't work for me.
