BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Just checked and my area is due for this next year :D I know it's a year away but anything better than this

is fine by me!

I can't believe the average "broadband" speed in the UK, really. I'm from Sweden so I guess I was spoiled back home, but man. My Infinity connection's sweet though. I was on VM DSL before, got roughly 6Mb down and 0.15 up. Switched to Infinity and now I get 38Mb down and 1.7 up on Package 1. :D

we had bt infinity installed last week. our old speedtest was as follows

and after the installation that took about 20 minutes to do we now get the following.

we were quoted at least 30mb so im really pleased with the speed and the time it takes to download files etc is amazing. not sure why the upload speed isnt to great though.

That's a nice improvement! I have similiar ADSL speeds to you, how far are you away from the exchange?

Hey guys just got home from work and am over the moon.

I live out in the sticks and was getting 1mb adsl. could barley watch sd with buffing every 3 secs

Found out about BT option 3 with fiber for those who cant order for BT Infinity.

Was told I would get 7.2mb (over a mile by road to my local cabinet)

Ok, so i'm about to jump to FTTC via ADSL24 or IDNET.

What router is the one to get at the moment?

Depends what your budget is. The ones I've read good things about and am considering replacing my HH3 on BT Infinity with are:

Billion BiPAC 7800N
ASUS RT-N56U
Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station

Mine was the end of June and got put back plenty of times all the way from September 2010.

I just checked the checkers as a normally do and it went live.

I did email Johnny McQuoid Superfast Broadband Programme Director

He did a few checks and told me some work needed to be done over night and a few days later the roads at night was dug up and bt was hard at work, a few weeks later my cab went live,

but my cab has been installed for about 6 months prior to this and powered up, might be worth dropping him an email.

Would you not require ipv6 from a router? im waiting to see if the wndr4000 or wndr3800 comes out in a few weeks and i have been searching furiously for a suitable fttc router and im still none the wiser!

the asus black diamond looks good and so did the draytek 2920n but since then ive realised both lack ipv6 support so where do i go now?

i cant justify £150 on something thats already outdated and theres no sign of ipv6 drayteks other than the 2130n or the 2750 which was interesting as you can see line stts from it as it has its own vdsl2 modem.

im torn between waiting on the latest netgear or one of those 2 drayteks basically.

What exactly is this BT option 3 and how do you order/enquire about it?
