BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

All the ISP's listed in that Google Doc use BT's Fibre infrastucture, so you still need to be in an enabled area to get it.

What exactly is this BT option 3 and how do you order/enquire about it?

I had to email the director of BT. To get it installed as every time I rang no one knew about it.

Its Bt Broadband with fiber for thoses fall short of the required 12mb for infinity

My line was showing I could get 7.2mb but when it was installed it was at 16 :)

i had to do the same, mines been in a month now, my estimate was 7,2, synched at 16 profile 16 ish, now its 12-13 , and my pings gone up

Do BT block periodically oron and filesonic etc......

Be do it on off...

Also can some one tell me conclusivley what speeds to you get during hours that p2p is throttled using bit torrent?

Now that BT have removed the 300GB FUP does anyone know if they cap people for large downloads? I've had a stable 37.5mbit (4.5MB/s) for the last 4-5 weeks, yesterday I had to download a snapshot of a project from work ~32GB from FTP, it downloaded at 4MB/s constant... but today my BT infinity speed has taken a massive nosedive, I'm getting 2mbit (250KB/s) maximum.

How slow is Bit torrent during peak time guys?

It cant be 20Kb? :(

I should probably upgrade to BT infinity, as my exchnage is upgraded, and I would probably save on phone/broadband bundle, however there are some key things I need answered:

1. I have no master socket, in my house. Router would have to be installed top floor in in my loft at the end of an extension cable.
2. Sites such as oron, file sonic, rapid share etc... are they blocked or throttled? (Be there sometimes block some sites intermittantly)
3. What speeds during peak times that BT throttle bit torrent, would I get using torrents?

I have VM 50mb currently, it looks like they are now throttling all newsgroup traffic, even using SSL encryption, if this is staying I will be jumping.

How is Infinity for newsgroups? Anyone using Astraweb can you tell me what speed you get?

I don't use torrents just newsgroups and gaming.

Thanks

I use Supernews and UNS both max out my connection 24/7 :D

Torrents are totally impossible at peak times capped to death...

Gaming is nice and smooth.

ping to jolt.co.uk-:

What newsgroup client are people using ^^?

Can some one answer these questions, please?

I would make the jump from Be there where I get max speeds of 1.6Mb/s unlimited bandwidth, no traffic shapping to BT if the traffic shapping isnt so severe, it negates the positive impact of having a faster speed!

If your loft is easy to access I am sure the engineer won't mind installing the shizzle up there.

I haven't tried Rapidshare for a long time, newsgroups are the way to go ;)

Torrenting at peak times ain't possible.

I've had Infinity since the 6th of April they scrapped the 300gig FUP half way through April, By the usage meter reset (1st of May) I had hit 630gig+. I've had no warnings and experienced no throttling at anytime apart from torrents :D

Ok, next important question to consider is, I currently browse and download at 1.6Mb/s. (My line can do 1.9Mb/s but i get the odd disconnection every few weeks)

Will essentially doubling this speed, really be noticable?

As for the word, shizzle, what a coincidence, thats my favourite word at the moment!
