Yay, another person with actual **** internet! :p

End of September, hopefully, for FTTC!

glad to know its not just me, crying into ma cereal :o

I'm also one who is suffering 80/20 woes.

Had a almighty row on the phone about Infinity today, got an another engineer coming out tomorrow, right mess, two weeks ago I had an email saying I had been upgraded.

Things get worse, BT's modem died this morning, was hot enough to fry a egg on, luckily this afternoon my replacement 2750N arrived & I then find I'm still on a 17a profile.:(

Nope, think he's getting confused. We were all on 8c I think then they rolled out 17a a while back in preparation for the 80/20 upgrades. 30a is most likely going to be rolled out at some point so BT can upgrade speeds again but 17a is normal.

From my BT modem:

Code:
# xdslcmd info --show
xdslcmd: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime
Retrain Reason: 2
Max: Upstream rate = 14631 Kbps, Downstream rate = 75032 Kbps
Path: 0, Upstream rate = 17023 Kbps, Downstream rate = 75669 Kbps

Link Power State: L0
Mode: VDSL2 Annex B
VDSL2 Profile: Profile 17a
TPS-TC: PTM Mode
Trellis: U:ON /D:ON
Line Status: No Defect
Training Status: Showtime

Thanks Phemo for clarifying things.

Perhaps the engineer knows something we don't yet, 200Mbps upgrade:eek:, maybe he got confused with the fttp we are having installed on some new builds in Bath.

I've just bought a Asus RT-N56U to replace my trusty DLINK DIR-655 as I need some of the extra features. After reading some reviews, I'm looking forward to it arriving and hopefully it won't disappoint!

Quick one on this, does the router itself support VPN. As in, able to set it up on the router and not VPN pass through?

I'd rather use Asus's own firmware and not a 3rd party one (never really trust them).

Getting speeds of 51 mb with ip profile being at 53 mb. However speed checker sas i should be able to get 64 mb. Its been 13 days since activated, i called them yesterday and they told me that this was the max speed possible

Is there nothing i can do to get the speed up? Or is that the peak i will grt even though speedchecker says i should get higher?

Have a look at thread on the Asus forum, sixth post.

Was reading about VPN the other day with regards to Asus, as I was considering buying one, & wanted to know more about VPN.

Cheers. I'll see what it does when it arrives, and if it doesn't support it I'll send it back under the DSR and start looking for a different router.

It's a shame Cisco routers with decent wireless are so expensive. Maybe one with an AP attached could be an option.

It doesn't support a VPN server natively, only pass through, you'll need 3rd party firmware for that such as: http://code.google.com/p/rt-n56u/

Pretty happy with that to be honest, I'll do another one late at night.
Much better than the old speeds. Was surprised to find out the line from your
house to the junction box is still copper and it's just the inter-junction box lines
that are fibre.

Had a engineer here to day,was here for over an hour, plus he phoned me & asked if I minding him coming this morning instead of afternoon, as he was ahead off schedule.
And he excelled himself, he replaced the infinity modem due to the old one over heating, but that has been replaced with a Draytek 2750N.

Then ran numerous tests for just about everything.
Even though I went for the speed increase, I have only gone from D/L 38mb to 49mb & U/L from 5.2mb to 7.4mb, due to a **** under ground line from the cabinet to the pole, most likely old aluminum rubbish, unlikely they will not replace it.:( unless it fails.
