BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

This chap has now had his date changed 7 times.

http://www.urbanhaze.com/2012/06/complaining-about-bt-infinity-dates-that-keep-changing/

As of today he has registered complaints with Oftel, the ASA, Trading Standards and Watchdog.

Yeah I found his blog today while googling along those lines. Although they do caveat that the dates are an estimate only, it is misleading and you can't expect customers to wait and wait seemingly endlessly to be upgraded. If it's going to be March 2013 or whatever as the earliest true estimate then fine, tell me before I order standard broadband with the intention to upgrade to Infinity.

I order standard broadband with the intention to upgrade to Infinity.

This is what I mentioned in my message to them while giving them my details to be looked at.

At some point people are going to feel like they are being deliberately lied to in order to retain them on their existing BT deal or to encourage them to not go elsewhere.

Some, like me, have little choice. I can't get Virgin, but after all these delays I might be more tempted to go with Sky or BE if they offer the service once BT plug it all in.

If a builder gives you an estimate of 3 months to build you a house and it takes a year, is it still ok to call it an estimate? Isn't that more of a blind guess?

All any of us really want if we have to have a delay is some kind of reason. Is it planning permission problems, is it that it was a very snow filled winter, are the ducts collapsed or blocked.

All we currently get is "well it is only an estimate".

At this stage I have no faith that I'll even get Infinity in 2012 let alone by September.

Yep, and having done a bit digging today Openreach seem to be a faceless organisation, Its difficult to find a contact for them, it just fobs you off with contact your provider

Have done what I can but don't expect much, can only hope it comes before the end of they year too

Any time I see a van in the are im gonna stop and ask, its the only way to find out whats going on

I don't know if this has been posted before but no harm in doing so again.

It's tucked nice and deep into their website and not very well advertised. I had to do some hunting and everntually found it. I applied a while ago and got a confirmation email through the other day saying it was on it's way!

Getting my Infinity installed tomorrow pm. BT phoned my last week randomly to ask how my phone service was and after a few minutes we got talking about fibre BB. Estimated speed is 51 down and 13 up but we'll see what happens as my ADSL peaks at 330K/sec.

The deal I got was £17 for the first 12 months then £20 for the remaining 6 months.

Any tips about configuration once the engineer has gone?

Get him to go to speedtest.net to show you the speed, my engineer simply tried to go to the BBCi player and show a few videos which while it worked does not show me the speed I'm getting. Don't install the BT Home Help stuff either, its doesn't do anything regular PC maintenance won't already cover.

After i tweeted BT today about being pushed back i got a phone call and they checked it out. Irish guy one the phone

No more info, can only tell me what openreach tell them.....blahdebalah. But were apologetic and just said keep checking

BT Infinity has slipped for my area from 30 June to 30 September. And it had already slipped before that. And people complain about Virgin Media dates slipping....

I just got Infinity2 installed, wired I get ~75Mbps download, however wirelessly via an Atheros AR9285 (802.11n) card I max out at around 35Mbps. Is there anything I can do to improve the wireless speed, would using a different/better router improve it?

*snip*

If anyone has the same question, you can get quite a bit of extra speed out of the supplied BT HomeHub by switching the wireless interface type from "802.11 b/g/n" to "802.11 b/g/n 40MHz" (if all your devices are compatible). I get 68Mbps (8.5MB/s) over wireless now.

I seem to read torrent upload is capped at 100Kb/s on infinity, which seems to explain why i cant get more upload than that!
Occasionally i will get maxed but then it falls rapidly. Any way to avoid it?

Also i have an IP torrents invite, if anyone wants (Please make sure you will actually use it if i give it to you) pm me.

Yes please. Been after an invite for a long time :)

pm on its way!

The December/March/September dates are just placeholder dates. You cab could be upgraded before this date. Just need to keep checking BT wholesale checker.

hey guys

bts site still says register for interest but nothing else :(

openreach says AO so i guess i need to calpl BT

sam knows said 30th june then 1st june :/ which is odd as i still cannot order lol

BT's rollout info still states 30th june

Im on lowestoft exchange if anyone else has any info trust me :)

The quoted 60/20 for my area is incredibly attractive. Currently 60/3 on Virgin as my area has not been doubled yet to 6Mb upload. But I do a lot of ftp uploading, and 20Mb up would be awesome.
