BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Those tp links are awful. I had a pair of them and my download speeds were 4Mb/s, after I bought some flat ethernet cable and chased it under the sides of the carpet and now I get 9Mb/s downloading from Steam/Origin.

I don't know why people pay top dollar for the best broadband and yet throttle themselves with homeplugs.

Yes I agree pal, here are some speedtest results with a direct ethernet connection to the laptop...

Via powerline....

I would run some cat6 from the router (near entrance of house) to where my PC is (2nd reception) I'd have to butcher the wood flooring to keep it nice and clean :(

Still waiting on FTTC here. I'm in Oakham, Rutland. The council secured BDUK and private funding earlier in the year (somewhere just over £3m i think) and signed a deal with BT to roll out FTTC. When they signed the deal they said work would start in October. Nothing has happened yet though

Tested my speeds using newsgroups last night. Around 6.2Mbps down on these crappy comtrends, not bad really when speedtest.net is reporting lower figures. I'm going to have a look at the floorboards and see if I can do some cat5 cable routing :D

While I agree it is crazy to use anything but ethernet for 40mbit+ services, many people aren't actually paying top dollar for these services; bt infinity for example is actually fairly cheap (£26/month with unlimited usage allowance) and with the heavy advertising is arguably on the road to becoming a mainstream product (option 1 at least).

The irony is that powerline networking is a (relatively) new thing yet has shown up just before the UK is finally getting some decent speed connections!

I dont use ethernet, but still get the full 80mbit.... You just need a decent access point :) But I get your point. People using old 802.11g hardware and the like are missing out!

Ours just got installed literally an hour ago

11MB > 74MB, chuffed with that :)

just signed up for it for a business user.

unfortunately best is 25 down and 9mb up and £30 plus vat for 100gb a month:(

They wouldnt budge. Bt are awful for doing deals.

Hes got 2 phone lines with BT as well.

But coming from a dsl line thats very poor ie 1-5mb down and 500 k up and constant drops etc i think they should be pleased.

I've had nothing but problems with my BT Infinity, from drop outs, to speed loss and now to this:

(I'm on 60/15 btw), or that's what I'm 'suppose' to be on, this currently on Wi-Fi btw.

For some strange reason, the router dropped out before, it came back on, but I was on 10mb d/l, instead of the usual 30/35mb I get on wireless? :S, i'm pretty confused, to be honest.

You seem to post loads saying you have problems and in every thread we tell you to call BT out. I assume you have done so recently, if so what have they said?

how are people finding you tube loading? and general web browsing as ive only upgraded as web pages are so slow at loading...............

BT said my cabinet would be upgraded in November (one of the forgotten many) with a view to services being able to be ordered from mid November.

Checked today - can order! Would you believe?

Appointment book in for next Thursday.
