BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Just had BT infinity 2 installed (BT tried their best to **** up the order, but thankfully everything worked out in the end). I'm going to run a few tests on my newsgroup to test the line. I currently use some comtrend powerline adapters (the ones BT used to supply with their BT Vision box), should I replace them now that I have Infinity?

Comtrend powerline adapters hate them, had nothing but issues with mine & BT Infinity, they just wouldn't connect the printer, or the lappy.
Remember reading somewhere that Comtrend Adaptors were not HomePlug products, but they are "UPA (Universal Powerline Association) approved.
Can't find the link.:(

My Comtrends refuse to talk to the TP Homeplugs.

Replaced them with TP-Link AV200 200Mbps for the printers.

And some TP-Link AV 500 for the lappy & Sky box.

Both the TP powerline adaptors have been superb.

I've just spoken to somebody from BT about infinity in my area. Despite their website saying December this year I was told there's still no exact date for it yet :(

So i'm doing the BT Infinity speed check and it says:

Superfast fibre optic broadbandGreat news! You are eligible for superfast BT Infinity

53.0Mb download
15.7Mb upload

Why is this capped out? Is it the exchange or down to the phone line? i thought fibre was above all this distance stuff?

Yeah I need to get rid of the comtrends, I was advised speeds of 66/15, I'm getting at best 25/10 via these homeplugs. I should really take the laptop near the master socket and test speeds using a direct Ethernet connection. I think I'll purchase a pair of the TP Link connectors!

I downgraded my FTTP from option 3 to option 2 to save a few quid. It's a nightmare now! I can only assume its broken, from 280mb to this...

Those tp links are awful. I had a pair of them and my download speeds were 4Mb/s, after I bought some flat ethernet cable and chased it under the sides of the carpet and now I get 9Mb/s downloading from Steam/Origin.

I don't know why people pay top dollar for the best broadband and yet throttle themselves with homeplugs.

Downgraded? Few quid? :o That is your punishment!! :p

Check your router stats, what are you sync'd at etc? Get onto BT, probably whacked you on the wrong profile.. You're probably a first to DOWNGRADE from a top FTTP product to a lower package so you're a test dummy. :D

My Asus router sits on 192.168.1.1 - how do I connect to my Modem to check the stats please anyone? sorry but 256 pages is a bit much to go through!!

Tried the usual 192.168.0.1 to no avail...

thanks

Price rises according to the BT site. Doesn't affect broadband, but it affects line rental etc.

Yeah for direct BT customers; line rental prices go up approx <£1 on 5th January 2013, TV essentials up £1, Unlimited call plan up 25p.. That has been known for months!

I'm with Sky and they put my line rental up at the beginning of this month, courtesy of BT..
