So as I thought, unless you pay the £5 they throttle down your VPN and FTP.
Is that part of the trial FTTP they're running in Cornwall with 300mb/s connections.?
Send an email to [email protected], give them your telephone number and postcode, ask when the cab will be ready.![]()
I don't see any mention of throttling. It reads more like QoS to me.
Throttling to me means rate capping and they don't state that they do that for unlimited products.
QoS is a good thing in my eyes. In theory so long as the network isn't massively oversubscribed, there should be little detrimental effect to file downloads while keeping low-bandwidth consuming but more sensitive applications like online gaming, VoIP and VPN running smoother.
Edit: Obviously it would be nice if everyone could use their connections to the max at the same time without the networking falling over but as that's never going to happen (costs) QoS is here to stay unless an ISP wants to get a reputation for e.g. being **** for gamers, etc.
Hi all,
Thinking about joining BT Infinity 2, but need to know about connectivity.
Will devices that use wireless G signal, i.e Iphone 4s connect to the hub or is it purely N signal devices.
Thanks in advance.
Ah right, we've just got our terms mixed. To me throttling is any sort of traffic management, QoS, etc. I can do QoS within my own network, so once traffic reaches one of my modems I want it to be completely unrestricted by the ISP. Hence why I'm with BeThere for ADSL2+, and it looks like Sky will be the best ISP for me when FTTC finally gets done.
If you have FTTP (im one of the lucky ones - based in York) you can upgrade to 160mb already. I had it for a while and then downgraded from option 3 to option 2 because I didn't need the extra speed, despite being sold as a 160mb service it would constantly run at 260-280mb.
YAY. Had inifinity installed a couple of days a go and had nothing but line drops since. Every 30s-1m my connection to the internet will drop for 5-10 seconds.
Gave them a call and their engineers are going to look into it and give me a call back tomorrow.
Not impressed at the moment, in a bit of a mood.
