Thanks for mentioning my blogpost
But just to clarify that an ASA ruling against BT is no small thing!
The ASA released details of this adjudication to the Press earlier this week under embargo until today.
We've all had Infinity dates pushed back again and again so it's very easy to be cynical about BT's approach to this - but remember, this is the first time this has gone as far as a ruling from the ASA Council.
Previously it went to an informal agreement with the ASA - and even then BT acted (even if it was nowhere near what was agreed)
There have been other ASA rulings against BT for other issues in the past and they've always acted on them - probably for fear of being banded in the ASA's hall of shame as well as getting bad press.
According to BT, they're working on a brand new tool to check broadband availability that they plan to launch early this year.
Whilst this ruling not going to get you Infinity any sooner, it should put an end once and for all to incorrect dates being advertised and dates being rolled back again and again.
In the unlikely event that BT did continue to do that, then I'd be straight back to the ASA with another complaint - and I'd expect the ASA (who have just a little more clout than us!) to make life difficult for BT if they did.
In the meantime I'm going to re-contact BT's CEO and BT's Director of Infinity Project and band this ASA ruling in their face with a "told you so" smugness tone, and see if I can get them to comment
